Not at all Faith, it is a matter of how people behave. When people break the laws they become criminals. When people behave in a bigoted manner they are rightly identified as bigots.
It is not a matter of naming or belief or speech but rather a matter of the individual's behavior.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Faith (who else?) writes:
The difference is that the Civil Rights protestors were fighting to end oppression, not prolong and institutionalize it. The "evil laws" in this case were the ones that prevent same-sex couples from having the same rights as straight ones. Right, and Civil Rights protestors were criminals put in jail too, and Christian pastors in Communist countries were made criminals and put in jail, beaten and murdered as well, lots of criminals in this world made criminals by evil laws over the centuries and subjected to abuse. It finally came to America, now we can suffer like our brothers and sisters in the rest of history and the world. The religious angle is just so much right-wing rationalization, and of course the atheist blogosphere is only too happy to take the bait. But The Big J never said jack about homosexuality. This has just been reactionary, all-American homophobia since day one, and I think it's high time the tide has turned.

Oh I'm sure you're right, jar, it is indeed about how people behave. If you preach the Bible for instance when the law has made it a criminal offense to preach the Bible, you become a criminal as you say. If you sit at a lunch counter when the law has forbidden it you become a criminal for that behavior. If you will not disobey God when asked to do so, when the law says you must, you become a criminal. If you refuse to accept the doctrine of transubstantiation when the powers that be have criminalized that refusal, you indeed become a criminal for that behavior. I'm sure this list could be expanded greatly.
You are quite right, it is all about behavior.

Again you demonstrate the principle that naming is what it's all about. Call Christians oppressors, homophobics, haters or whatnot and you can jail us or whatever the law decrees. Redefine injustice to include calling sin sin. By this means you turn the Christian culture on its head and make us criminals. Enjoy your power, it won't last long, God won't ignore it forever.
Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Again you demonstrate your ability to get the exact opposite message your online foe is conveying. I'm saying that "naming" is irrelevant; if you're discriminating against people on the basis of their sexual orientation, you're committing a criminal act. The notion that this (or any other) behavior is intrinsically Christian is a meaningless rhetorical ploy that's designed to exonerate you from responsibility. That's what the existentialists used to call "bad faith," no offense to your online moniker.

No I got it right. You've simply renamed "criminal" and renamed "injustice."

Um, "criminal" just means someone who breaks the law, and "injustice" is something contrary to the spirit of justice and fairness for all. Sounds like you've renamed "right." But in our world, "right" is what happens when you comprehend the gist of someone's statements instead of twisting them to mean something completely different.

Faith writes: If you preach the Bible for instance when the law has made it a criminal offense to preach the Bible, you become a criminal as you say. More falsehoods from you Faith. Your right to preach bigotry and hatred in the US is still protected and is not threatened in anyway.
Faith writes: If you will not disobey God when asked to do so, when the law says you must, you become a criminal. And yet more dishonesty and falsehoods Faith. There is no law that says you have to disobey God as you have been shown many times.
Faith writes: If you refuse to accept the doctrine of transubstantiation when the powers that be have criminalized that refusal, you indeed become a criminal for that behavior. Your falsehoods and making shit up just doesn't stop does it Faith? In the US religious beliefs are protected by the Constitution.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

We can all celebrate that marriage equality is now the law of the land in the USA. However, there is a potential problem in that it was a substantive due process decision instead of an intermediate scrutiny/equal protection judgment. This article describes the difference.
Essentially, the court had yet another chance to make it so any law that potentially discriminates against LGBTQ citizens would automatically be subject to higher standards of judicial scrutiny. And they didn't do that.

The court acknowledges the right of all people to the equal protections and the equal benefits of the law.
This is god's punishment upon the christians for being assholes.

Yeah so was throwing us to the lions God's punishment of Christians I suppose. This is basically the opening salvo of a modern version of throwing Christians to the lions. Be sure you have enough popcorn to last you through the event.

Please stop with the martyrdom. It isn't like Christianity was always on the persecuted side either...
Now that we're back in 2015, how does believing that homosexuals shouldn't marry and being criticized for it is even close to being killed by lions? You don't like your country's constitution? You can try to change or you know, find a country with laws who reflect your intolerance.

Yeah so was throwing us to the lions God's punishment of Christians I suppose. As I understand the fundamentalists nothing happens in this universe except by his will so I guess you are right about that. This next round of his punishment will probably be more cerebral than physical. Making you mad and bitter that you can't be openly hostile to others the way christians were in the past. Just keep in mind, though, that when some christian goes nuts and shoots a bunch of folks at a gay wedding he will go to jail for murder, not for the sin of christianism.
