GIA writes: I'll ask you some more questions about this God of yours later.
My Gnostic Christian God demands equality of all peoples as a part of our Universalists beliefs. Most religions also preach some form of equality yet also preach homophobia and misogyny. Why are most believers denying equality to the vast majority of those not in their particular religion as well as to many within their own circles? This is a good question. It has been my exoerience that equality would, by definition, include unbelievers with believers. The Bible shows no equality between these two groups so, by inference, why would God? If God were to have true equality, there would be no such thing as hell, judgement, or even salvation---unless salvation was somehow earned much like a college degree...through diligent study and application.
I cannot see the world solving its problems, be they religious or political, while the vast majority, the religious, deny equality to the other majority who are not of their particular religion. At best, the world must arrive at a consensus. there will likely never be an agreement philosophically or even economically. The poor will always be with us.

The Episcopal Church just elected their new Presiding Bishop. A black man replaced a white woman. You guys are trendsetters, I'll say that much. I'll ask your opinion on what is and is not a "Gnostic God"...is it similar to the idea that we are expected to represent God on earth by trying to do our best, admitting when we are wrong, and making amends when we can? I guess GIA is causing me to think about who this God of ours really is...human creation or outside reality? Ok. You begin this topic by speaking of your Gnostic Christian God. Can you describe Him better? Is He a creation of your own imagination? In your other topic you said
quote: Thus...before we get the ball rolling on your new topic, I would like to understand whether you actually believe in a Creator of all seen and unseen or whether you believe humans invented and perpetuate the concept. Once that is settled we can better answer the question of whether God demands equality. AbE: This post should have been addressed to Greatest I AM. My bad. When you can name your God, I am, and mean yourself, you will begin to know the only God you will ever find. I totally disagree with this. Anyone who thinks they are god and connect it in any way with spirituality are oppressed by Satan at best and possessed at worst. Or delusional. Not to say that mainstream Christianity sounds any brighter. Personally I think you would be better off being an atheist, however. GIA writes: Nice that you are not literalist readers of all scriptures, but you still must read some literally if you are to maintain a belief in Jesus. Which begs the question on Jesus as your savior and scapegoat and the morality of it. My "Club" has always maintained that Jesus essentially stepped out of eternity (As He Was In The Beginning) into time in order to be a solution to the problem of Original Sin. The way I see it, God created a freewilled lucifer who chose to become satan. When God created good and evil, God essentially created only the possibility of evil---which had to be initially actualized--through choice---by Lucifer. Once this was done, humans were presented with an awareness of right and wrong and given a choice. This choice continues to this day. In my belief, we are responsible for our choice. Choosing Jesus Christ does not absolve us of the responsibility of daily choice...but it does give us a solution that not everyone has by birthright...it is a solution that must be chosen. jar will disagree. jar writes: Where did I say I had no need of a savior? IIRC, you have mentioned that salvation is a gift. You have also said, IIRC, that We are responsible to try to do our best---on a daily basis. Thus your idea of salvation is arrived at through doing. My idea of salvation always involves God doing it for me.(A bit Calvinist) Jesus was, is, and forever shall be. You might mention that once humans were given the gift of the knowledge between right and wrong, we never again had an excuse that we were fallen. Which is one thing I have not arrived at a decision about in my belief paradigm.God created war so that Americans would learn geography. —Mark Twain "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." —Mark Twain

GIA writes: Does God demand equality? My Gnostic Christian God demands equality of all peoples as a part of our Universalists beliefs. Seeing as how this is a topic that Greatest I AM started, it follows that being on topic involves discussing how God--either as ourselves being the "only God we know" or GOD as defined by the poster and interpreted by the poster believes.
GIA writes: To me, it seems that the God I believe in and serve demands obedience, communication through prayer, and honesty. Were I tio think about it, I believe that God expects me to treat others without regard to partiality. This is a bit hard for me to do since I have a human tendency to prefer certain types of people over other types of people.
It seems that Gods do demand equality. GIA writes: Jon has started a new topic, Is Christianity Evil? but he expects an evidence based conversation so I won't get a chance to wax poetic over there. We, as individuals, are quite good and altruistic. This is quite apparent if one looks at the statistics of our progress as a people in other moral areas. It is our religions and other social institutions and governments that are evil, not the people, as many governing hierarchies have institutionalized misogyny in their written policies. I suppose that my question--at this point--is to ask Greatest I AM whether people should be treated differently than they are treated.
