I must first apologize, for I am not well informed on the subject of abiogenesis.
A colleague and I were debating evolution which due to his ignorance on the subject leads to an argument over the origin of life and abiogenesis. He claims that a man by the name of William Pratt has carried out an experiment which disproves abiogenesis, am I correct in assuming that the only thing he proved was that bacteria can not be created from non-organic matter which is totally irrelevant?

Google doesn't seem to turn anything up. Which means that it is probably a gross error. I did a search on AiG's website, too - and the only page it turned up with "Pratt" in it was one on a 19th centurey "scriptural geologist" (George Bugg).

Since PRATT is a common acronym for "points refuted a thousand times", could this be a joke that you friend has fallen for?

April Fools' Jokes
Sadly, Ned, some creationists will fall for the silliest jokes.
A well-known April Fools' joke that some creationist fell for was the discovery that Neanderthals were musical:
April Fool - Neandertal Music
But my favorite, just because it is so d**n silly, is Onyate Man.
Enjoy!

Another strange thing is that this person supposedly "disproved" abiogenesis. On another message board someone claimed that they were also going to prove abiogenesis is impossible. I tried to warn him that it is a very difficult task to prove a negative. But, alas, he didn't listen....
