Exactly.
We give women the right to choose and to do so by cutting out the slave owning men's power to impose their will.
It is like a slave being freed from her chains.

On the contrary, you want to remove a choice for them. You're the slave owner in your story.

I didn't forget that. It isn't true. Only a minority of Muslims even support Sharia . The woman I quoted is an example of one who doesn't.

In a sense, we are all slaved to the law of the land and the state gives us all equality under the law. That equality is what I wish to replace the oppression of Muslim women with.
You do believe in equality. Right?
Do Muslim women deserve the freedom from oppression that the state gives you?

I am the mirror image of what I loathe because as a Gnostic Christian, I tie equality to righteousness and if you do not, you are not a moral man.

"One of those hard-earned standards is welcoming people with diverse backgrounds and ideas."
Yes, but we do not allow a slave owning standard. Nor do we allow the oppression of women and girls.
We live in a free land and it is our duty to insure that freedom, is everyone's standard.

"Do you also think that Nuns should be prevented from wearing a Habit?"
I think all religions that do not have equality as a part of their theology should be outlawed as the law of the land gives us all equality.
Are nuns second class citizens or considered inferior to the organization or within their church?
Yes they are.
Should Canada as a country support such a notion and allow it on it's land.
No.
All Canadian women should be and demand equal status to all men.

Including the freedom to wear what you want? Or not?

Except for when it comes to choosing their wardrobe, then they don't get equal status to men by having the freedom to wear what they want, they can only wear clothes that you approve of.

Not if the majority rules against it like it did in France and other countries.
If it will not tolerate slave garb then that is the law.

What I want is not really relevant in terms of authority.

Re: French ban on burqas
Hi, GIA.
GIA writes:
What is every law we have on the books if not forced conformity?
Indeed. Then logically, before we pass a law, we should make sure there is pretty good evidence that the benefits of forced conformity will outweigh the detriments. Or are you proposing that this semantic game you're playing is adequate justification for forcing conformity arbitrarily?
GIA writes:
Democracy is the tyranny of the majority.
...which we all agree is a bad thing, right? That's why democratic nations build into their constitutions things like a "Bill of Rights" and a system of checks and balances: to protect individual liberties and prevent one group from dominating all the others.
