Will a familiarity with American cultural references help here ? Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Might be making some progress here...give me some more time...tick tock tick tock... Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Yep - got 1 and 4 - which are giving me something of a theme... Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

And 5 as well now...the precise theme will probably depend on the other two. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

No. 3 has fallen - which is another clue for others.... Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

And finally got them all - though No.2 was slightly sneaky, in that you have to slightly re-think the theme - though not much. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Right structure, but the wrong theme. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

I wondered about Hewlet Packard for a while too, but it's the wrong theme too. PP cracked it for me in the end - the alliteration finally kicked a connection, and then it all fell into place. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

xongsmith and Tangle are both using the right approach/formula, but there's a theme which makes it possible to get all of the solutions. Dr A has given the clue to the theme, in emphasising the V in the topic title. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

The others follow a similar theme - though it helps a little with a couple of them to have young kids or grandkids ;-) Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
