I want to renew this topic and add some more rules concerning behavior in this thread. Our old format was Post Of The Month, but i feel that if anyone sees a post that is too good to be missed, showcase it here.

Our thespian and wordsmith Rrhain did what I thought was a bang-up job on this post. The thread contained many points of view regarding symbolism, authoritarianism, fascism and free expression. The author of the thread, Jon, started with this observation:

This is the most rational argument against life, and specifically human life, being a miracle of creation because it is found on a planet that seems quite suited for the life that lives on it.

He argues that it would be far more miraculous if we lived on a planet hostile to life.

This is one of those things that I would like to print out on a card that I carry in my wallet to whip out and use as a rebuttal the next time someone uses the "Life is a miracle because Earth is perfect argument", with proper citation of course.

For Faith and any other YECs who may be lurking here who are wondering about dating, I highly recommend Dan Wonderly's book "God's Time Records in Ancient Sediments". Dan was a geology professor for a short time at Grace College (John Whitcomb was on faculty at the seminary). Dan did not have expertise in radiometric dating, so his book focuses exclusively on non-radiometric evidence for an old earth. The book is a bit dated now, but is still quite good.

Presented in a rather clumsy manner, with links to individual pages. But my impression from a brief look was that this was a pretty good discourse on some basic geology.

In a way, the OE theory is incidental to finding oil - but to find oil it is necessary to understand how the rocks formed, how they changed after they were formed, etc. Finding oil comes from that understanding and so does the realization that the rocks must be old.

In my opinion, the essence of the downfall of young Earthism, among those having a geology knowledge.
