I want to renew this topic and add some more rules concerning behavior in this thread. Our old format was Post Of The Month, but i feel that if anyone sees a post that is too good to be missed, showcase it here.
Suggested Message Format:
It would be tidy and helpful if you copy/paste the format above. Here are the 2016 nominations so far: 1) Nominated by myself:
********************************************************** Our thespian and wordsmith Rrhain did what I thought was a bang-up job on this post. The thread contained many points of view regarding symbolism, authoritarianism, fascism and free expression. The author of the thread, Jon, started with this observation: quote: In my opinion, Rrhain made a strong case for what the Confederate Flag represents. The Comic he posted was the best part! Two thumbs up! ******************************************************* 2) Nominated by coyote:
********************************************** 3) Nominated by jar:
*********************************************** 4) Nominated by anglagard:

I might also add that if anyone finds a really good post from older threads and you are reading it for the first time (or rereading it, as I often do) go ahead and submit it here as well. Just remember to keep things neat and tidy and use the suggested format.
Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. –RC Sproul "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." –Mark Twain " ~"If that's not sufficient for you go soak your head."~Faith

Forum: Is it Science? Thread: Faith vs. Science Message #: Message 4 Because: Nailed the whole difference in 6 words. Succinct, effective, and flat out beautiful. Read not to contradict and confute, not to believe and take for granted, not to find talk and discourse, but to weigh and consider. - Francis Bacon

Forum: The Great Debate: Thread: Molecular Population Genetics and Diversity in Evolution Message #: Message 15 Well laid out presentation, with examples, nicely organized, well supported with evidence, and conveyed on an understandable level. An example of how a science based great debate ought to be carried out. I see at least one other post by Genomicus in the same thread of similarly high quality. Nicely done. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people. Martin Luther King If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions? Scott Adams

Forum: Faith and Belief: Thread:The meaning of the trinity Message #: Message 214 This is the most rational argument against life, and specifically human life, being a miracle of creation because it is found on a planet that seems quite suited for the life that lives on it. He argues that it would be far more miraculous if we lived on a planet hostile to life. This is one of those things that I would like to print out on a card that I carry in my wallet to whip out and use as a rebuttal the next time someone uses the "Life is a miracle because Earth is perfect argument", with proper citation of course. What if Eleanor Roosevelt had wings? -- Monty Python One important characteristic of a theory is that is has survived repeated attempts to falsify it. Contrary to your understanding, all available evidence confirms it. --Subbie If evolution is shown to be false, it will be at the hands of things that are true, not made up. --percy

Forum: Geology and the Great Flood Thread: OEC vs YEC Issues Message #: 194 Not so much a great message, but I thought this book reference needed to be flagged somehow. Quoting his entire message:
Presented in a rather clumsy manner, with links to individual pages. But my impression from a brief look was that this was a pretty good discourse on some basic geology. Moose

Forum: Coffee House Thread: Gay Marriage as an attack on Christianity Message #: 208 In support of the (for lack of a better phrase) "don't go too far when promoting pro-LGBT policy" theme. From the message end:
There is more quote and response at the source message. Moose Professor, geology, Whatsamatta U Evolution - Changes in the environment, caused by the interactions of the components of the environment. "Do not meddle in the affairs of cats, for they are subtle and will piss on your computer." - Bruce Graham "The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." - John Kenneth Galbraith "Yesterday on Fox News, commentator Glenn Beck said that he believes President Obama is a racist. Forum: Biological Evolution Thread: How do you define the word Evolution? Message #: 110 Quality happens in a rather dismal topic. The concluding sentence:

herebedragons on the How do you define the word Evolution thread:
Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge. Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. Heinlein In the name of diversity, college student demands to be kept in ignorance of the culture that made diversity a value--StultisTheFool It's not what we don't know that hurts, it's what we know that ain't so--Will Rogers If I am entitled to something, someone else is obliged to pay--Jerry Pournelle If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1 "Multiculturalism" demands that the US be tolerant of everything except its own past, culture, traditions, and identity. Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other points of view--William F. Buckley Jr.

Forum: Biological Evolution Thread: Evidence for Evolution: Whale evolution Message #: 430 Replies to Drudge in a stunningly coherent manner (relatively speaking), to why there is is limit to how fast a human can run. And, sad to say, a much better reply that all the other replies to the same message. Alas, he followed up this POTM message with one of considerably lesser quality. PLEASE, NO SNARKY REPLIES TO THIS MESSAGE. Moose Professor, geology, Whatsamatta U Evolution - Changes in the environment, caused by the interactions of the components of the environment.
