Well russia and Ukraine had the same problem with Crimea as Slovenija and Croatia have with Istra. While we have been involved in legal battles for 20 years, and now an EU arbiter court to determine the fate of istra. He took the simpler route and just took it back, knowing that crimeans would be happy about it.and yes he thought about how crime-ans would react, because there woul be no other way to hold Crimea without going to war if the people did not agree.
