Re: President Trump
Will he treat the presidency as freely as he treated The Apprentice and WWE Wrestling?

Will his ego expand to ne heights? Will the people around him be as vapid as Cheney and Rumsfeld in administrations past? This is the real question....who will be his right hand men (and perhaps women...if he has them around for their brains).

As a Christian, I ask whether he will ever humble himself and actually try to be a great president or whether his mouth will shoot off like a loose cannon for the next 4 years, causing all sorts of unforeseen international repercussions.

Finally, what will he do with domestic spending and the budget?

I think we pretty much know the answer to that.

For the rest, I'll wait and see.

I see that Faith, at one of her blogs, is worried that Trump might renege on some of his promises. I guarantee that he will renege on most of them, because they are mostly unachievable. He is apparently already having second thoughts on repealing Obama Care.

Re: President Trump
With the exception of his kids it seems that those around him will all be pretty well known politicians with long and public track records and certainly should be familiar figures to everyone.

It's very reassuring to see that the Trump administration will not just be continuing Washington insiders and more of the same.

Re: The Clinton Machine
It occurs to me that maybe you and dronestar don't fully understand what Clinton voted for.

It's not a question of what she voted for, but what she demonstrates that she will vote for. She wants to control Syria as a No-Fly Zone, to which the Chiefs of Staff have already expressed would require commitment to open warfare with both Russia and Syria. It is also based on her dealings with Libya and Syria thus far as her role as Secretary.

As for her role in Syria as secretary of state: she had no ability to commit any troops. She could only make recommendations to the president. Any decision to commit troops would have been the president's.

That's only because the public made it so abundantly clear that we don't want to get dragged in to yet another quagmire of endless wars, such as we've seen in Iraq and Afghanistan. The President was even reluctant to wage a small air campaign against ISIL based on such a negative response of the American people.

In half of her speeches during her push for the presidency, she threatened to engage Russia with an diplomatic, economic, and military response... That's pretty provocative given the fact that both Russia and NATO have been saber-rattling for the last year with these massive military drills.

She lost, so she will have zero input in the future of America. Who the fuck cares what she would have done now?

A clown car rerun
So we are going to get a rerun of the clown car, Carson, Cruz, Christie.......with a bunch of other dimwits thrown in; Giuliani, Gingrich, Palin.

We are already seeing violence and threatened violence against minorities around the country. In schools bullies and the children of bigots feel empowered to terrorize anyone they don't like.

This is exactly the kind of behavior that enabled the nazi rise to power. A few assassinations of the press by the "2nd amendment folks" as Trump calls them and the press will stop reporting on the abuses of power.

Scientific research will be de-funded because Trump denies evidence. OUR public lands will be sold off to his rich cronies and turned into slag heaps, including our national parks and national forests. Federal lands will be turned over to the states which don't have the budgets to manage them so they will be sold off. Controlling a few major wildfires would break the budgets of most states.

Armed militias will terrorize the public at will as we have already seen in the case of the Bundys in Oregon and Nevada.

I am torn between utter fear of what these assholes are going to do to our incredible America and wanting to see all of them and their supporters actually get the pile of shit that they want to turn America into. Karma is a bitch.

Faith's election results message
https://watchpraystand.blogspot.com/2016/11/o-happy-day.html

The entire thing:

quote:
Thank You, Lord, for saving the nation from a Hillary Presidency and giving us a man who knows the difference between good and evil, whose heart is in the right place, who loves this country. Keep us praying, though, because the forces of evil aren't going away. Now more than ever we need God's protection.

It's like she thinks Jimmy Carter is going to be president again.

Trump may know the difference between good and evil, but that doesn't mean he has high moral character.

Somewhere along the line, I'm going to get my "Trump = Andrew Dice Clay + a lot of money" follow up message.

Moose

We didn't have the option of high moral character in this election, but if you are comparing him with Hillary, she's the lowest of the low on that score.

Re: President Trump
In a couple months Trump will be president, and that seems a more relevant topic. Wall Street seems to like him. Will he build "the wall"? What will be his policy with Russia? With Israel?

Before 2008, the beginning of the Obama administration, small business start-ups in the U.S. far outpaced small business closures. Since 2008, the gap has been narrowing. In 2015, for the first time in decades, small business closures (failures) now outpace small business start-ups. You can read the details here;

http://www.gallup.com/...an-entrepreneurship-dead-alive.aspx

I think he has a better chance than any standard politician-turned-president to right that sinking ship, by getting at least some government off the backs of small businesses, back to pre-Obama levels. If he can't do that, considering our mounting national debt about to soar past $20 trillion, the wall, Russia, and Israel won't matter much IMO.

You could be surprised at some information and understanding that Trump voters have, that you liberals don't.

It was a discussion about people defending their reasons for voting for Hillary so obviously that necessitates things from the past to use as some kind of a metric to gauge future outcomes. It's really not that hard to understand, genius. You fear what Trump will do based on things he's said or done in the past.

This too shall pass
The US has survived many anti democracy and anti human rights Presidents from Andrew Jackson who carried out one of the greatest examples of genocide and ethnic cleansing in history to Ike who authorized the overthrow of duly elected democratic governments to install dictators to Ronald Regan whose path to the White House involved cooperating with extreme Islam to keep Americans held hostage and financing and exporting terrorism world wide to Bush' authorization of Saddam Husein to invade Kuwait to total incompetent ones like Andrew Johnson and Harding.

Reasurring to hear a voice of calm. You've elected a shit president. Lots of countries have shit presidents. We have one - he's very happy that Trump won. He gave a congratulatory speech in which he looked forward to better relations, and in which he accused the current US ambassador (an Obama appointee) of not showing up for the independence day celebrations (ours, not yours). This was a lie, as the US ambassador was of course there, but it's pretty standard for our shit president. Life will go on.

I'm just replying to your post because it's the most recent of a series. I'd just like to say that I see little point in characterizing the present and past candidates and presidents in the most extreme terms possible that arguably don't represent the truth (this isn't a comment about the Czech President - like I said, I'm just replying to your post because it's the most recent) . I'd be much more interested in a discussion about the implications of potential Trump policies and initiatives.

For instance, what will be the fate of the Affordable Care Act? Trump has said he'd like to keep only a couple parts of it, most significantly the part where insurance companies cannot exclude people for pre-existing conditions. But it's this clause that is causing so many insurance companies to withdraw from participation, because people can wait until they get sick before signing up. In those states that don't allow insurance companies to charge premiums commensurate with the pre-existing condition, insurance companies are withdrawing. It will be interesting to see how Trump handles this, because it is this part of the Affordable Care Act that is most likely to cause its eventual failure.

I ran a testcase through the government website last night to see how much ACA insurance costs. A person with $40,000 of annual incomes pays a 2.5% penalty for non-participation, or $1000. This helps fund the subsidies for people who can't afford insurance.

ACA insurance for this person costs as little as $2400 after a $600 subsidy. The copay was $30. There are higher tiers that provide better coverage at greater cost.
