And the cartoon doesn't say so. The joke is that this is proposed as one more way that God could miraculously prove his existence, and then they laugh because making religious people follow the commandments of their religions would be too big a miracle even for God.

It's sort of much the same thing, but I thought it was funny because making religious people follow the commandments of their religions is too absurd for even God to consider.

Don't assume God considers things. If you think He might be in there, or out there, just try to find Him. When you do get a response, it will blow your mind. Experiencing the spiritual side really changes the religious one. But you do have to try. And everything here is just syntax, nothing more.

Considerable consideration
Don't assume God considers things.
Why not? He does it all the time in His Books. He's the ultimate judge of good and evil. That's a considerable level of consideration that He's continually considering.
... just try to find Him. When you do get a response, it will blow your mind.
And when you don't? You're not seeking the right way. Right? Have faith. You're probably just not spiritual enough to get it ... yet. Try to imagine a response and be satisfied with it. Speaking in tongues might help?
Experiencing the spiritual side really changes the religious one.
It seems like it works the other way around. Religious affiliations shape spiritual beliefs. You can always dump one religion for another, but people don't like to do that. They feel like they're being unfaithful.
But you do have to try.
Why struggle? With just rationality and compassion there's no need to reconcile your spiritual and religious "sides".

    How about this one, Dr.A?

Oh very far from it. Certainly not the only possible one, just the true one.

If you are talking about what I wrote, then that is just prejudiced and I would say: Stop it, Dave, it wasn't even about Christianity. Stop being so afraid of religion, I'm not trying to hurt you. Honestly. I get that there are a lot of people who try to use religion to hurt you, but that is not me.
In lieu of the theme of this thread, here is a funny picture:
Now, is psychoanalyzing the jokes on this thread "on-topic"? I dunno, but here goes:
    quote:
The joke is that this is proposed as one more way that God could miraculously prove his existence, and then they laugh because making religious people follow the commandments of their religions would be too big a miracle even for God.
I guess I'm not sure why people think it is funny.
I took the guy who was initiating the conversation as being smug. Like two atheists laughing at how dumb the theists are.
That (the joke) is so far off-base from religious people that I don't even know where to begin. I mean, for people who are honestly being religious, being religious doesn't have anything to do with whether or not God exists. What honestly religious people are doing is relating to God. You could do that to the void.
In my opinion, what people who have honestly "found God" are trying to say is that they got a response. Given that there is a response, there is something there. Is it in any way even associated with the concept that they describing with the word "God"? Nobody actually knows. It turns out they're awfully short on data.
But, they're getting a response, so there's something there, and they're convinced that religion is an appropriate way to learn more. (I know that it could all be them just tricking themselves, but the real tricky part is due to the nature of what it means to respond, in that it requires initiation by the other party, i.e. you).
So, why don't religious people just follow what God tells them? Simply because it is too difficult.
Why doesn't God make them? Nobody knows because they don't have enough information, and honestly they're not even sure that they're not tricking themselves. But, to them there is no question that they're getting a response, so there has to be something there (to them).
On the other hand; if the first guy was proselytizing, then I agree that trying to promote religion by "proving God's existence" is a hilarious attempt. And I've found two ways in which it can be funny:
    • Of course: there's the atheist perspective on how dumb that is.
    • But as a theist: considering that if that is really how someone's religion "works", then I doubt that they have really even found God in the first place.
Now that I think about it, that's actually more sad than funny. I dunno, I'd need to know more about the person who drew the cartoon to figure out where they were going with it. Given on how far off-base it seems to me, I'd say it's the first bullet point. And if you atheists really think you are "past" religion, then shouldn't you be trying to help people instead of laughing at them?
I get laughing at people who are miserably failing at trying to hurt you, but is that really how you see yourselves?
Sorry, Dave. This is just me relating to you and it happens to be anonymously over the internet. I'm not really trying to spread my religion, I just want to talk. Shit, that is religion. That was a joke. See, I am on topic.
