What's even funnier is that they all put the profits from those books into long-term investments.
Several years ago, around Christmas, I saw a single tabloid newspaper in the store with (roughly) both of these headlines on the cover:
"Rapture Coming by Easter, say Scientists"
"How to Get Your Family Out of Debt in Six Months"

So basically, I'm left pondering what to pack for End Times. Seeds, beef jerky, Tang, clean socks, hip boots...
We can't overstate the importance of those hip boots. Chest-high waders would be even better. Eight years away, and it's already getting pretty deep....

You yunguns haven't eye witnessed the change over the last 68 years as I have. Global disastrous weather phenomena has escalated manyfold over these three scores plus of years.

Show me the math, Buz. Evaporate only 33 feet = 10 meters of our present oceans into the atmosphere. Calculate the resulting atmospheric pressure. Look up, from that pressure, the appropriate temperature in a handbook like the CRC or Lang's - at your library.

Hey, don't get sore.
I'm not the slightest bit sore - I just think you should run through the calculation for yourself. About three of us on this board have done it for you in the past, with various amounts of water, but it hasn't sunken in to your consciousness yet.

If you do bother to try, you will plainly see the evaporation of even a half-percent of the earth's water into the atmosphere just plain WILL NOT be very comfortable. It would make for nice boiled lobster, but there wouldn't be time to eat 'em.
