Update from what I know.
According to information I have, Asgara has completed the most recent round of chemo. The are still some concerns, but those are being dealt with, hoping they can be handled without surgery.
Not completely out of the woods yet, but moving in that direction.
quote:
They removed 4 cancerous nodes from the right lung. . They took lymph nodes from all around and they were all clean.
I know from the ct that there are more spots on the left again but doc thinks that after chemo they can probably do an ablation to get them.
She is home, resting and setting up for marathon DVD watching:
Sometimes the hard part is waiting for normalcy to return.

Re: Update from what I know.
About 4 weeks ago I was found to have a olfactory neuroblastoma which is as it turns out is pretty rare.
Is that any relation to sticking your nose in other peoples business?
Don't remember if I've said before, we used to live in Victoria, our son was born there, and recently graduated with Master's in Architecture from UBC and is currently working in Vancouver. Lots of memories of walking trails on the Pacific side of the island and up and down the coast, skiing at Mt Washington (BC not MA) and sailing.
Should be time for the cherry trees to be blooming, although I've heard your climate this year has been very warm.
Hope for all the best, and hope that your sense of smell (and taste) remains as sharp as ever.
Thanks

Re: Surgery
Glad you are doing well.
With radiation on the horizon you may be at the beginning of a harsh journey in unpleasant side effects: I wish you well, and I wish you strength. And marijuana oils etc to combat the nausea and loss of appetite (augmented by loss of taste appeal).
There are a number of studies showing positive results from marijuana and tumor reduction, especially in the brain.
... the cancer had not gone to the lymph nodes which had been a concern. ...
A major plus, as that is the major path to spreading tumor throughout the body.
Soit bon et sage et va souvent l'glise (iirc) as words of advice from a warrior.

Re: Surgery
Yesss ... well I have not heard of DCA, but I would look at peer reviewed articles in medical journals and look at how well they fit your situation.
Talk if over with your oncologist -- they should be aware of the research if they track the field at all (and the good ones do: mine was onboard for using weed to counter nausea but he cautioned\advised to use oral consumption over inhaling as there are viruses etc on plants that you don't want in your lungs.

growing weed for fun and profit
Back in the mid-70s I grew some in my attic under a VHO fluorescent gro-lite. I don't know what it takes here in Oregon to get a marijuana card. I seem to remember a niece got one for a bad back.
They now make LED lights that provide proper wavelength light for greenhouse use. My provider (under RI medical MJ program) uses a cloning technique that cuts down on the cycle time between harvests and eliminates the males in the process.
For medical use it needs to be a controlled environment so that you don't get bacterial\fungal\viral infections that can be passed to clients.
We have get-togethers to harvest the buds, and he also processes the clippings to make "bubble hash" which is primo and very concentrated. His honey makes baked goods that are also primo.

Re: update
... Keeping a VERY close eye on the vaccine we got from Cuba. Roswell Park in NY is starting work on it. The hope is that it can be fast tracked through trials as there are many years of records that came with it from Cuba.
As I said on facebook, there is the option of taking a vaccine vacation to cuba.
You should also look into the (non-halucinogenic) oils from canabis in shrinking tumors.
And I'm sure you have heard more than enough about diet ... but stay away from sugars (they feed tumors) and sugar precursors (starches).

Re: update
And speaking of updates, how getting on, Big Guy?
My cancer is still in remission -- over 3 years now, so that is good.
But my energy is low, and I have had trouble with allergies this year. Didn't used to have allergies, but my rebuilt immune system thinks they are enemies now.
Hope to get the outside of the house done this summer and get my 67 mini on the road.
Being retired helps.
Enjoy

Re: How is it going?
Asgara has been struggling through some low points with the chemo, but is doing better and her spirits are good. I follow her on facebook.
And I am still in remission (knock wood) going on 5 years now. Just had a checkup with my oncologist and all signs are doing well. I am seeing a urologist now for other problems with this 70 year old body, and my PSA is going up. Both my dad and my paternal grandfather died of complications from prostrate cancer so I am having this monitored regularly. I think proactive surgery may be in order. I don't need another cancer.
Thanks all for all the support.

Re: Time, cancer, and family: try CBD
Both you and Faith need to watch this video
http://healthyreport.info/...reakthrough-vape-canabidoil-cbd
and if you haven't tried CBD, my opinion is that you owe it to yourself and your family to try it.
Worst case scenario is that nothing happens. There are no bad side effects, there are no psychotropic effects (highs, hallucinations, etc -- those come from THC).
Please.

Re: Time, cancer, and family: try CBD
Are you suggesting this as a quality of life thing? ...
Not just that, but possible cure or at least a minimizing of symptoms.
I'm in remission for 5 years now, and I do think a large part of that is using cannabis during and after my last chemo to alleviate the bad side effects.
The CBD oil is the non-psychogenic part of cannabis that has benefits for pain relief as well as scientifically documented tumor shrinkage.

Re: Time, cancer, and family: try CBD
Not much was said on the video about its effect on the cancer itself, just one comment I think. ... but there doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence for any of the claims. I'm convinced that some juices, particularly carrot juice, actually kills cancer, some kinds of cancer in some people at least, from the anecdotal evidence, but there doesn't even seem to be that much for cannabis' effect on cancer.
I did a google -- lots of articles about the scientific results of studies on its effect
cannabis shrinks tumors - Google Search
The oil is a juice from the cannabis plant ...

Update - some good some bad
So we flew out to Portland Oregon to visit son and girlfriend and do some sightseeing, and serendipitously see younger brother there for a conference, up from California.
Got a couple of days in and shortness of breath sent me to the neighborhood clinic and then a short ride to the hospital. The x-rays showed left lung almost totally collapsed. They drained almost 4 liters from the lung cavity, and over the last week it has recover over 95% capacity. Enough. To let me go back to air bnb, along with some meds. Worst part is coughing, which is part of the recovery processes with attendant headaches and muscle aches. I can now walk around the block. Slowly. And I can run out of breath but recover.
That’s the good news (it didn’t kill me and I can get better).
The bad news is that the cause of the fluid accumulation is my lymphoma coming back. Won’t know the upshot of that until we get home, but it looked bad in the x-rays. I’ll try to get some pictures up, but the laptop is at home and I’m trying out a new iPad. With keypad cover. Some getting used to the differences.
On an up note, because they were worried about flying we are taking the train make, with direct link from Portland to Providence, RI.
And I have some optimism that treatments have improved in the last 5 years, and maybe have some genetic treatment available.
Enjoy
