In other words, what you are emphasizing is "Whats in it for THEM"? I can't feed all of them. You both have convicted me somewhat, however. I tend to be selfish. Perhaps if I did unto others the way that I EXPECT God to DO unto ME, I would find the answer.Sometimes at our store, we ask for donations for Turkey Bucks...a charity to feed the homeless during the holidays. Some people, when asked, claim that it is THEY who are needy and that somebody should help THEM.Of course, when big business asks for donations, what happens is that they donate the total sum, match it 50%, and get a 30+% tax write-off on it all.So in conclusion, I believe that God watches our intentions and motivations and expects us to be less selfish. Hopefully, I will someday receive the message and apply it.

Im not sure what I expect anymore. Compulsive gamblers are noted for their sense of entitlement, and I have felt this before...but I never ask anyone for help except God (or my family) Were I homeless, I would expect the government to help me somehow...which is everyone, I suppose. But I never would expect handouts from any strangers.

Recovery is emotionally discouraging. I went to Jiffy Lube to have my oil changed. The price was too steep, to begin with, but I was pressured into buying all sorts of extra services and fancier oils, all of which I turned down. 3 days later, my car suddenly starts acting up. Today, I took it to a mechanic whom I trust. I paid ten times as much to get it fixed right. I suspect that those cons at the Jiffy Lube sabotaged my car somehow, but have no way of proving anything. I have new medications and have been sober from my binging and irrational and selfish behavior for 3 days. After one year of sobriety, I expected some sort of reward and received nothing. Then, I relapsed, expecting a quick reward which failed to materialize. Long story short, I was nearly broke and then my car acted up after trusting strangers to fix it cheaply. Today as I pay the mechanics whom I know $623.38, I at least trust that the money is well spent. How can I trust handing money out to people whom I never know their motives, intentions, or character?
