NPR writes:
Federal authorities are responding to a shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, a small community southeast of San Antonio. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has tweeted that special agents from its San Antonio field office have been dispatched to the scene.
A man walked into the church during a service late Sunday morning and "began firing," the local Wilson County News reports, citing county Sheriff Joe Tackitt. The paper notes that Tackitt "confirmed there were multiple casualties and multiple fatalities."
Right now the news media is not in consensus regarding details...
s many as 25 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at a church in small Texas town outside of San Antonio on Sunday morning, police told NBC News.
A single gunman opened fire at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, killing approximately 25 people, Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackett said.
The shooter was among the dead, Tackett said.
What kind of terrorism is expected in a small Texas town?

Developing Story
The news media is developing the story as it unfolds. The FBI is undoubtedly going to take over the investigation. Several thoughts on the matter(It happened just this morning)
[*(] If this was domestic terrorism, why would someone shoot their own choir?
  • If this was foreign terrorism, it really hits America right in the privates below the Bible Belt! Meanwhile, Trump is playing Golf in Japan. Just as the Archduke in Sarajevo before World War I, this incident will galvanize conservative Americans and liberals alike to find a common enemy.
  • could this be a simple action of another lone loon nut job? Some people will easily claim that satan was involved in this one! Realistically, the issue will again come up about guns and gun control.

Wonder whom we will collectively blame? I suppose in conservative Texas, they will blame satan unless ISIS claims responsibility.

    News Clearing Up...
More details are coming out in the news. One family lost 3 generations! The stories are heart-wrenching as expected from these tragedies. The impact of such an irrational act always creates many ripples in the fabric of society that travel far.
One detail that is unclear of this writing is how the suspect died. He was pursued by a neighbor who grabbed his own rifle. Even if the neighbor ended up killing him I wouldn't be in favor of pressing charges---the man prevented more deaths.
You all have access to ample news media and reports.
As NoNukes says, we will have time to discuss this in more detail in a week.

    Re: News Clearing Up...
The news is clearing up about the suspect. He was thought to be first of all mentally unstable, though the USAF blew it by not reporting his domestic violence and threats on base to the national database.
Hewas thought to be a somewhat militant atheist, judging from some of his social media posts and content...he thought that Christians were *stupid*.
I'm sure the evangelical right will run with that one awhile...it makes it easier for them to blame Satan. I never read up on where his Mother-In-Law was that Sunday...he was thought to have been targeting either her or the whole church.
Sandy Hook was the first time children were targeted, and this marks another time....yet critics say that the debate is over if nothing has been done thus far.

    Guns Pro and Con
Regardless of what "human nature" is, a human with a gun is more dangerous than a human without a gun.
And yet if we enact laws to outlaw gun ownership, the critic's standard reply is that the outlaws (or dictatorships or organized criminals) will still have guns and that the average citizen has no weapon against them. Just in the recent shooting in Texas, only a quick-acting neighbor with a gun was able to stop the killer from causing more collateral damage.

In the case of a dictatorship or martial law, a lot of good that would do. The nazis were easily spotted carrying guns, but the population was powerless to fight them.

You may be right, but I am against the state having that much control over my buying habits. The state should not meddle in peoples freedoms and rights.

    Re: Guns Pro and Con
Arguably, the purpose of the state is to protect the group from its individuals.
Yet in our current system, what we have is legislation protecting some groups of individuals from other groups of individuals and a political tug-of-war as to which group is in power.

Lets take this topic over to Gun Control III as the Texas shooting is no longer front page news. (That was a good reply, however. You make me think.)
