Bruce Hampton - April 30, 1947 — May 1, 2017
A personal favorite.
Collapsed onstage while performing for his (more or less) 70th birthday party. The video says he died onstage, I don't know if that was literally true.

Pierre Henry (9 December 1927 — 5 July 2017)
Pierre Henry - Wikipedia
quote:
... a French composer, considered a pioneer in the musique concrte genre of electronic music.
quote:
Pierre Henry was born in Paris, France,[3] and began experimenting at the age of 15 with sounds produced by various objects. He became fascinated with the integration of noise into music. He studied with Nadia Boulanger, Olivier Messiaen, and Flix Passerone at the Paris Conservatoire from 1938 to 1948 (Dhomont 2001).
Between 1949 and 1958, Henry worked at the Club d'Essai studio at RTF, which had been founded by Pierre Schaeffer in 1943 (Dhomont 2001). During this period, he wrote the 1950 piece Symphonie pour un homme seul, in cooperation with Schaeffer; he also composed the first musique concrte to appear in a commercial film, the 1952 short film Astrologie ou le miroir de la vie. Henry scored numerous additional films and ballets.
Two years after leaving the RTF, he founded with Jean Baronnet the first private electronic studio in France, the Apsone-Cabasse Studio (Dhomont 2001).
quote:
Composer Christopher Tyng was heavily inspired by Henry's "Psych Rock" when writing the theme to the popular animated cartoon show Futurama. The theme is so reminiscent of the Henry's song, it is considered a variation of the original (Cohen 2001).
One of the pioneering giants of electronic music.

Recently deceased musicians - Walter Becker et all
In the last month or so -
Walter Becker's (Steely Dan) death (09-03-2017) was pretty prominent, but I don't believe got a mention here.
A few others that I have at least a little personal affinity to:
Holger Czukay (Bassist, founding member of Can) - Died 2 days after Walter Becker, 09-05-2017.
John Abercrombie - Jazz guitarist - Died 08-22-2017.
Goldie McJohn (Keyboardist, Steppenwolf) - Died 08-01-2017.

Stephen Hawking - the Evolution Fairytales connection
Was doing one of my occasional checkings of what's happening at "Evolution Fairytales" and I also decided to look at the somewhat affiliated "Real Science Radio". There I found:
Recall Bob Enyart Interviews Stephen Hawking from 20 Years Ago?
Which has available 43:20 of audio.
At the previous link they include:
RSR: Stephen Hawking is a Lunatic
Which has available 27:46 of audio.
I haven't at all listened to any of this. But it must be good, coming from such "monuments of journalism".

Arthur William Bell III (June 17, 1945 — April 13, 2018)
Art Bell - Wikipedia
Found out via PZ Myers:
A double-wide in Pahrump, Nevada is haunted now
PZ says "He was last century’s less mean-spirited Alex Jones. Now dead."
I read somewhere that Art holds (or at least held) the record for the longest continuous on-air stretch, something over 100 hours.
