I'm sure there was reasoning behind it. I'm very aware of Hutton's reasoning. But all science before the modern age was reasoning and a lot of it was pretty wacky. Now you've got radiometric dating, hooray for you.

Not if they didn't impinge on Noah's situation. But if most of them occurred underwater, as they would have at the end of the Flood, the water should have had some effect on them.
It's hard to imagine how if the Siberian Traps and the Deccan Traps and the Columbia River Basalt, along with countless other volcanoes around the Pacific Rim and elsewhere (and not even mentioning the mid-ocean ridges) were erupting at the same time, it would not affect Noah. He probably should have been par-boiled, suffocated and buried under volcanic ash. On the other hand, maybe this recent global flood on a young earth never happened.

We can even see what happens to such structures over two or even three years.

Why was it wacky?

I've gotta admit that quoted description just starts my eyeballs rolling until I think they might pop out and roll across the floor.
Sometimes, exposure to the truth will do that.
A pebble beach ...Tonto Sea... tore up the Vishnu ... causing ...schist and granite pebbles. I'm holding onto my eyes. How do you believe this absurd stuff? Really.
So that's your argument? Really? I give you a description of the deposit by trained geologist and all you can say is 'absurd'?
Seems to me my abrasion of hard but not totally lithified Supergroup and Vishnu and granite too is a much better explanation.
You didn't understand a word of my post, did you? You just dismissed the information with a hand-wave and a word: "absurd". Your faculties for discussion leave a lot to be desired.

Those deposits sure look like they formed from fracturing and deformation of soft sediment, don't they?

nonorganic fossils.
By the way, remember the fifteen foot quartzite boulder buried in the Tapeats a quarter mile from its source in the Supergroup? I forget how you guys explain that? How it got there, how it broke off from the Supergroup, etc.

The whole idea of landscapes in ancient time periods is impossible. I trust geologists for basic descriptions of the world but not for interpretations of anything they think happened millions of years ago, and I've given plenty of reasons why I think that.
Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

I understand the problems with all the volcanoes but something restrained the effect you think should have occurred. Being underwater for instance, or occurring during the ice age perhaps. I never said they erupted "at the same time" though at the beginning I would suppose there were quite a few, but they erupt as the continental plates move over them over the last 4500 years.
The one thing I know is true is that the Biblical worldwide Flood did occur about 4500 years ago. Everything else has to be subordinated to that. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

The one thing I know is true is that the Biblical worldwide Flood did occur about 4500 years ago. Everything else has to be subordinated to that. Belief, pure belief. The evidence shows otherwise.Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge. Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. The evidence that contradicts the Bible is wrong if the Bible is true and that's the end of that.

But none of that has anything to do with a layer of sandstone in the geo column.

You would have to show the calculations. I don't believe it.

Faith writes: The one thing I know is true is that the Biblical worldwide Flood did occur about 4500 years ago. Everything else has to be subordinated to that. And how do you know that is true since not even the Bible gets the story straight?

Faith writes: The evidence that contradicts the Bible is wrong if the Bible is true and that's the end of that. But Faith, the Bible contradicts the Bible when it comes to the flood.
