Re: Toddler Kills Self with Handgun
It also reminds us that guns do far more harm than good...
Percy, Percy, Percy, you still don't understand. The problem is that there aren't enough guns. If the toddler's left hand had had a gun, he would have been able shoot his right hand before it killed him.
This really isn't all that complicated...

Re: Toddler Kills Self with Handgun
I stand on the clear exhortation of Matthew 5:29* - "If thy right hand draw down on thee, shoot it off."

Re: Today's carry package:
Besides that you can build a single shot shotgun for about $20, with stuff from your local hardware store.
And that, I think, is kind of the general idea. Make sure that only desperate goofballs have guns, and that those guns are single-shot home brew specials that are singularly ineffective for mass killing.
You could sit in the dark with your home-built single-shot (or hey, go nuts and make a double barrel), Walter Mittying to your heart's content as you eyed the security cams and waited for the Anti-Christ.
You paint an appealing scenario, and a much safer one.

Why not make 10 and band them together. Then make another 80 or a hundred.
Interesting how you willfully miss the point. Nice window into a Christian mind.

Re: Today's carry package:
My point was it does not matter the bad guys can get guns that will fire as many times as an ar15 whether guns are legal or not.
What you actually said was:
Why not make 10 and band them together. Then make another 80 or a hundred. That way you could fire a 110 times before you had to reload. But if you had someone reloading them for you it would mean you could shoot a lot more times.
Suggesting that a pickup load of homemade single shot shotguns, weighing hundreds of pounds, and accompanied by an accomplice of course, is in some way equivalent to a semi-automatic rifle that can be carried and reloaded on the run and hidden under a coat. You are spouting ignorant and dishonest bullshit. What does your buddy Jesus think about that?

Re: Today's carry package:
It's your funeral.
Sadly, it's usually a child who pays the price for this kind of irresponsibility. This man is an idiot, and if his gun owning friends are actually as incompetent as he is, then he has truly found a layer of bottom-feeding scum.
If you want, search for Sam Harris' description of how a responsible person (with a measurable probability of actually facing the situation this Walter Mitty wannabe dreams about) treats his firearms.
As someone who grew up in a culture of hunters, I have to point out to Icant that he is, put simply, viewed as an asshole by the people he imagines are his peers.

Re: Today's carry package:
Your images of the two semi-automatic rifles raise an interesting concept. While those rifles could have identical performance in terms of rounds/minute, discussions based on stats alone (setting aside magazine size) ignore one thing: The asshole factor. The sort of weapon popularly described as an assault rifle is essentially a toy, a fashion statement, an aesthetic statement. To the overgrown, dysfunctional children that fester at the heart of gun culture, it's about fantasy. The look, the feel, the pop cultural associations of those guns stoke a dangerous sort of Walter Mitty fantasy life.
It doesn't take much observational skill to notice that children's behavior changes to mirror the toys they are given. This behavior does not end with physical childhood. I think it is entirely rational to think that the design and appearance of "assault" rifles play into the fantasies of the already diseased minds of some of their owners.

Re: Today's carry package:
...worked in a foreign country where I had to have a work permit that had to be renewed every year for a $1250 fee my employer had to pay. My employer was responsible for a place to stay, all medical expenses, all educational expenses and a living wage. Anyone caught using help that did not have a work permit was fined $50,000 per person for first offense.
Lots if government regulations, gov't mandated medical care and education, and a living wage. And you think this is a good thing? Congratulations, you are starting to become a liberal.
