Re: Basic Forum Decency
quote:
Okay, so then why did you bring it up on a thread entitled "Christianity and the End Times?"
I brought it up, rightly or wrongly, because I was MOCKED. Someone selected a few choice favorites from the Bible and paraded them as usual saying basically, "You believe this stuff, you naive fool."
So, I responded by mentioning a few things which his and my generation believe which are by no means case closed forgone conclusions.
One of the things I mentioned in reaction to his mocking list was ... "And you believe Neil Armstrong walked on the moon."
That's how this got started.
Now, that having been said I did give attention to one of his listed matters - the talking serpent of Genesis, which I find quite wise of God to allow things to happen in this way so as to communicate to generations of people -
An exceedingly intelligent being exists in the universe which is adversarial to the Creator God. That is a created being which of its own accord, went awry and established himself a nemesis to God - His opposite in every way.
Important details are filled in latter in the Bible.
This is profound truth. And I think a speaking serpent was God's initial way of communicating this revelation to mankind in such a way that the most people could readily grasp it.

Re: Basic Forum Decency
And this has nothing to do with my Christian faith.
I doubt that many who are doubtful of moon landing footage are all held together because of biblical faith.
One well spring of gullibility, many outlets.

All jaywill was talking about was the accusation that religious people will believe anything. Your remark just confuses the point.

Wellsprings
  • If one believes that humans are basically bad and/or hopeless without God, one would then look for bad behavior or conspiracy among humans which would need fighting against. One would always be on guard against an enemy in some form or another.
  • If one believes that humans are basically good by nature and did not require a God to guide them, one would trust most media in the free world at least and one would have no reason to doubt moon landings, global warming, or humanist motives.
My jury is still out. I am a moderate in regards to these two extremes...I don't trust evidence alone, but I also realize that God is not going to magically rescue me.

Oh nonsense, Phat. Christians don't think that way. Jaywill simply thinks that the presence of sound where there is no atmosphere to transmit it calls the standard explanation into question. He's probably too ready to be suspicious when he should be looking for other explanations but he does have some evidence to base it on.

Conspiracy theorists can invent a limitless supply of bollox that normals are then expected to refute. Most normals can't be arsed aguing with crack-pots because they know that crack-pots don't care about evidence-based facts. We can theorise about sounds on the moon but we can never prove anything so the nutcases live on..
But all that crap is irrelevant if you can independantly provide irrefuteable evidence that it happened. We nw have that evidence. So the idiots can shut up. Prediction; they won't.

At first viewing that video does make you wonder how we could be hearing those clanking and scraping sounds if there is no atmosphere to transmit them, but I think that's because one automatically assumes the microphone is attached to the camera, which of course it isn't.

If you have a burglar on CCTV and his DNA on the broken window there's no need to speculate about whether he was actually indoors watching the football at the time of the incident.

    the moon nonsense
The biggest proof that man went to the moon and deniers are idiots is a quite simple one. Think about it, if at the height of the cold war the USSR faked a moon landing the US and every other nation that could prove them to be liars would have. The same goes in reverse. If the US faked a moon landing why didn't the soviets scream about it? why aren't the russians and chinese still screaming about it? They have the capabilities to prove the falsehood, why haven't they?

It's not enough to bash in heads, you've got to bash in minds
