Of course following some parts of the Bible - even when they relate to sex - would make things worse. And yet, some people still argue for them.
Some common sense definitions are necessary regarding this accusation. Rape is having sex with a woman while she screams for help. No scream, no rape according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24.

You mean that you want to bring stoning back ? For extra-marital sex ? Or did you really really miss that we are talking about the modern world ?
(But even if you did, thanks for pointing out another example for me)

Oh I'm sure Jones is not making an equation between our laws and OT laws in his discussion of sex as God's creation;
It is, in fact, quite common to appeal to OT laws when Christians want to condemn homosexuality. And Jones mentions the Bible as authority, not just the NT.
quote:
I was responding only to your complaint that the woman would "have to" scream to prove rape as if that was such an unfair imposition on her.
Aside from the fact that my complaint was that enforcing that part of the OT Law now would be a horrible idea it was still pretty horrible even then.
A presumption of guilt in a capital case is hardly nice under any circumstances. Perhaps you would do better appealing to the fact that if it was rape she might have to marry her attacker and death might be the preferable option ? Or maybe not.
Edited by PaulK, : No reason given.

Re: correction of fact
quote:
Given the culture of the times there is a lot of focus on justice for the rape victim.
Really ?
Well, if she didn't scream there would have been no way to prove it wasn't consensual. It's a choice between stoning the two of them to death or stoning him alone.
That doesn’t sound like a focus on justice for the victim at all.
