When I bought my cell phone (ATT), I was required to show a picture ID as well as a bill of some sort to show proof of address.
I don't have photo ID. Never did. Never will. I had to show two pieces of ID, including one with an address to get a library card. I need the same ID to vote, which I find disturbing. I never used to need any kind of ID to vote.

My question is: Why don't you want them to vote? Are you afraid of what they might vote for? Fair treatment, maybe? The kind of things your government is sworn to uphold? Heaven knows you don't want a bunch of people coming in and pressuring the government to do what it's supposed to do.

We used to have enumerators come around before every election and you'd tell them the name of every eligible voter in the house. Then they'd mail a card to every eligible voter and they were supposed to take it to the polling station - no ID required, and if the polling officer recognized you you didn't even need to show the card. Now they just make up the voters list from tax records and you have to show ID. I think it's more a matter of reducing costs than trying to prevent illegal voting.

To some extent, the role of government is to provide "stuff" for the people, whether in the form of goods or services. The problem we have is that some people are paying their fair share of taxes and not getting their fair share of stuff in return. Now you want to compound the problem by depriving them of the right to representation?

That's a fundamental misunderstanding of evolution. The "fittest" doesn't mean the ones with the biggest guns. We evolved as a social species because we are stronger as a group. The liberals and socialists understand that. Holing up in a fortified compound to fight society is not the best strategy for survival.
