1958 TV Show Had Conman ‘Trump’ Selling Mystical ‘Wall’ To Hysterical Townspeople
Snopes rates it as "true". The character's name was Walter Trump.

It seems the probability that the origin of the Walter Trump name is connected to Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump.

Things that are socialism
Is there Social Security?
Does Medicare exist?
Are there public highways?
Are there Municipal Fire and Police Departments?
Are there street lights?
Is there an Interstate Highway system?
Do US Highways exist?
Are there Public Water Systems?
Sorry Charlie but all of those are Socialist Programs.
You forgot the biggie - The military "defense" infrastructure.
Seemingly, anything the government spends money on is socialism.

Evangelicals Quit Nixon: Why Do They Stick With Trump?
Evangelicals Quit Nixon: Why Do They Stick With Trump? - Keeping Democracy Alive
quote:
When Nixon lied, it was an earthquake. Now Trump lies many times a day. Does it matter? Why is it that evangelicals remain solid with Trump? How is it that evangelicals no longer care about his personal immorality? Do Christian values jibe with his policies? In an insightful discussion, Elesha Coffman, assistant professor of History at Baylor University, a Christian evangelical college, answers these puzzling questions. She says evangelicals want a tough guy who will fight for them when they felt victimized by other presidents. And that evangelicals see the government as encroaching on what is rightfully their power. They are economic libertarians with ties to big oil, though some sectors do see their role as being stewards of God’s creation, the earth. Perhaps above all, a priority is restoring the rule of white masculinity. They eventually gave up on Nixon; what about Trump?

I haven't listened to yet, but it looks to be good. I've downloaded it for probable future use at our little Two Harbors, MN radio station.

House should explore the all of the Trump sleaze
...one question I've seen discussed among pundits is whether the House should focus narrowly on just the whistleblower chargers, i.e., have just a single article, or whether it should should include articles on obstruction of justice, campaign violations, emoluments, politicization of executive branch departments, and an absence of the candor expected of someone in high office.
I say "do it all". And take as much time as you want, even up to election day 2020. Get maximum exposure to the wallowing in slime that is Trump and the Republican party.
The bottom line is that I have a lot of faith in the wisdom of Nancy Pelosi, to do it right as possible.

Breathalyzers
Determining the validity of breathalyzers is incredibly simple. Because you can measure the results by having a controlled group ingesting different amounts of alcohol, some with no alcohol, and seeing the results based on the amounts consumed along with their respective alcohol content.
"So, after work, whatcha say we go out and calibrate a breathalyzer?"

BBC - HARDtalk - Christopher Ruddy: How much trouble is Donald Trump in?
quote:
Christopher Ruddy (born January 28, 1965) is the CEO of Newsmax Media, which publishes Newsmax.com and broadcasts the Newsmax TV network. A personal friend and staunch supporter of President Donald Trump...
The audio available here
I was disappointed in how weakly (at best) the HARDtalk host refuted some of the usual BS Trump talking points. Mainly, Ruddy's assertion that VP Bidden was wrong for calling for the removal of a Ukrainian prosecutor that was investigating corruption, when indeed there was very widespread call for the removal because of the prosecutor's lack of investigating corruption. Not a peep out of the HARDtalk host refuting that.

Re: BBC - HARDtalk - Christopher Ruddy: How much trouble is Donald Trump in?
That wasn’t the regular Hardtalk host
Hardtalk usually seems to give a pretty thorough grilling to the political guests, regardless of where the guest falls on the political spectrum. I had been wanting to hear a Trumpista get challenged, but this one was a dud. Bad time to put in the 2nd string host.
This wasn't a real Hardtalk.

Re: Doing what’s right versus Doing what’s right for me
Might this whole situation be looked upon as not merely being the impeachment of Trump, but rather the impeachment of the bulk of the Republicans in Congress?
Not only is Trump wholly unsuitable to be President, the Republicans of Congress are wholly in support and defense of him.

Hyroglyphx thinks impeachment is a bad idea
The articles of impeachment have been passed in the House BUT is being held off from being passed on to the Senate.
I yield to my perceived faith in the wisdom of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. Hold off on passing the impeachment to the Senate and let things stew, about how the Republicans of the Senate are going to handle the trial. Right now, the Republican image is that they are fully in defense of Trump and willing to whitewash anything and everything Trump does. Let that image stew, and see what happens.
The other option: Let it look like the Democrats are unwilling to challenge Trumps misdeeds - Not at all good for the Democrats image.

Re: The Assassination of Soleimani: Why Now?
This is what triggered me to start the "Pence would be a worse President than Trump???" topic (which I haven't yet looked at today).
Pence may be a theocrat, but would he trigger such a stupid action? I doubt it, but I may be wrong. This may be better discussed at the above linked.

Re: Iraq May Ask US Troops to Leave - Forum historic side note?
Iraq and the entire region were arguably better off under Saddam Hussein.
Of forum historic interest? -
Almost 13 years ago (24-Feb-2007) I created the topic "Iraq needed Saddam?"
