Re: Who Pays For The Extra Police Protection
In this corner, at 285 pounds of stinking bullshit, from New York City, it’s Donald J. Trump!

Re: I'm Done with Michael Avenatti
this "lets get a celebrity to run instead of a politician" thinking needs to stop here and now.
I agree with the sentiment. Most of the things most celebrities are celebrated for I find disqualifying to becoming policy makers.
I am delighted to see that several scientists were elected to Congress in the 2018 election. There were 6 or 7 or 8 depending on the timing of the news stories and several stories listed the types of scientist, including a nurse, these new members were.
A nurse scientist? I think nursing is a difficult and noble profession and I know nurses take quite a few science classes, but I don't think many nurses think of themselves as a scientist.
I hope for the sciencefication of both houses of Congress. The antisci movement in American society by the people who were too lazy or too stupid to learn basic science in high school can no longer be in charge of policy and management. It is becoming an unmitigated disaster for the U.S. but also messes things up for the rest of the planet, friend and foe alike.
I worry that the rhetoric and outright accusations we saw in many places around the country from Trump and Co. about voter fraud in this election is a trial run at declaring the 2020 election invalid, if Trump loses, and declaring himself the winner. They got a lot of Trumpets all riled up and threatening.

Re: Why Trump Will Be Impeached
Impeachment would require the senate republicans to actually have spines.
To convict, that will never happen.

(Speaking of Wikileaks, I wonder if Julian Assange, holed up now in the Bolivian Embassy in London for six years, realizes that he could have faced the music, served his time, and been out of jail by now.
Assange is in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

Mattis to Retire at End of February
Nothing surprises me, but I am completely blank about what this means for the future. I don't know if Mattis is a Trump supporter or has applied any restraint on Trump's impulses.
Mattis to Retire at End of February, Trump Says
If Mattis is leaving as a result of Trump's odd announcement of total troop withdrawal from Syria that some commenters say is surrendering to ISIS, Russia, and Iran, I have to wonder what new "middle east crisis" this is going to spark?

Any ideas what events are affecting the stock market?
Does anyone have an analysis of the recent drop in stock prices?
The DOW was $26,828 on October 3, 2018 and today December 20, 2018 it closed at $23,323.
There are so many events on the world stage and in the U.S. all playing at the same time, it would seem to be even more impossible to predict trends or to even see what events are causing or retarding market changes.

The Trump Christmas Special
The Trump U.S. Government Shutdown started last night at midnight.
Should we start a pool on how long it will last?
I suspect it will last at least until Congress reconvenes January 3, but I wonder what will happen then to change things.
As I write this McConnell is speaking in the Senate trying to blame democrats for the shutdown that we all saw Trump claim credit for last week. What a lying sack of bullshit.

18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset
Here are 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset
A list from Robert Reich:
quote:
Max Boot — a conservative and former editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page — outlines 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian agent:
1. Trump has a long financial history with Russia.
2. The Russians interfered in the 2016 U.S. election to help elect Trump president.
3. Trump encouraged the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
4. There were, according to the Moscow Project, 101 contacts between Trump’s team and Russia linked operatives, and the Trump team tried to cover up every single one of them.
5. The Trump campaign was full of individuals, such as Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and Michael Flynn, with suspiciously close links to Moscow.
6. Manafort, who ran the Trump campaign for free and was heavily in debt to a Russian oligarch.
7. Trump associate Roger Stone, who was in contact with Russian conduit WikiLeaks.
8. Once in office, Trump fired Comey to stop the investigation of the Russia thing and then bragged about having done so to the Russian ambassador and foreign minister while also sharing with them top-secret information.
9. Trump has refused to consistently acknowledge that Russia interfered in the U.S. election or mobilize a government-wide effort to stop future interference.
10. Trump attacks and undermines the Justice Department and the FBI.
11. Trump attacks and undermines the European Union and NATO.
12. Trump supports populist, pro-Russian leaders in Europe, such as Viktor Orban in Hungary and Marine Le Pen in France.
13. Trump has praised Putin while trashing just about everyone else from grade-B Hollywood celebrities to leaders of allied nations.
14. Trump was utterly supine in his meetings with Putin, principally in Hamburg and Helsinki.
15. Trump defends the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and repeats other pro-Russian talking points.
16. Trump is pulling U.S. troops out of Syria, handing that country to Russia and its ally Iran.
17. Trump has effectively done nothing in response to the Russian attack on Ukrainian ships in international waters, thereby encouraging greater Russian aggression.
18. Trump is sowing chaos in the government, most recently with a record-breaking partial government shutdown and acting appointees in key posts such as the Defense Department and Justice Department.

Re: 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset
I think the most important reason Trump continues to work for the Russians is because Putin has the pee video.
Trump's been a crook for a long time. The Russians bought him a long time ago and he has been laundering money for them for decades.
I am amazed that one family could know that many people with shady contacts with Russia, with the government and oligarchs.
Is there a single person in this administration who is not corrupt? Looking at people like Pruit, Zinke, and Minuchin, what was surprising was the amount of petty corruption from a bunch of rich guys.
Fuck every one of them.

Impeachment hearings would drag the Dems into the pig sty with Trump.
Yep, I agree. Impeachment would blow up right in the face of the Dems. Hold hearings and expose the corruption publicly and widely. Indict everyone else including Trump's kids.
The only hope is a Dem president in 2020, then indict Trump and Pence.
The Dems have let themselves and America be screwed by Bush and Boehner and Ryan and McConnell and Trump and I despair that they and America have not learned that the republicans want nothing less than total destruction.
If they make America enough of a shithole country no more brown people will want to come here to scare them.

Trump is getting his talking points from a movie
So apparently Trump's recent rambling descriptions of women being tied up and gagged with blue duct tape, Mexican cartels with super cars crossing the border and a bunch of other nonsense is from the movie Sicario, the Day of the Soldado.

Re: Trump is getting his talking points from a movie
Every time I think, "Really? Is this guy really that damn dense?" he comes up with crap like this.
Yep, after the 1st couple weeks I started waking up, "wondering what new outrage he will commit today?"
Now it's, " How many outrages will there be today?"
And today McConnell says the Dems wanting to make election day a national holiday is a power grab.
The Trump parasite has infected McConnell and is eating his brain.

Re: Trump is getting his talking points from a movie
Of course it is. Why do you think that the Republicans are trying to discourage people from voting ? (Especially poor people and ethnic minority people).
Yep, "government of the people ,by the people, and for the people is not something republicans believe or support.
After all, poverty is a character flaw, and the wealthy have earned the right to control government.

Re: What I'd Like to See in the State of the Union Address
One thought would be for all observers to yell, "Liar!", every time Trump lies.
I'll settle for McConnell's and Pence's and Trump's heads exploding. That video would become the world's most popular screen saver.
