We revolted before we can be revolting again ...

Re: Upcoming State Of The Union speech
Trump supporters blatantly waving Russian flags at CPAC. Pathetic.
Actually, the flags were being sold by some folks out in the lobby. They had "TRUMP" printed on them in the blue field in the middle. The convention was being trolled but few realized. So many of them politically suave conservative patriots had no idea what they were waving around. The convention staff recognized what had happened and went around the hall trying to confiscate the Ruskie tropes. Too late for all the photo ops.

Re: Health Care is Actually Very Simple
Assign one nation to each team and send them and their wives off on a vacation to their assigned nation.
Once all the congressmen are in their assigned nations get the president to issue an executive order to bar the republicans from returning.

More Russians?
Even in the midst of Michael Flynn's leaving the administration under a cloud Jeff Sessions did not see fit to reveal during his confirmation hearings that he had his own meetings with Russian intelligence officials during the election campaign.
What the hell happened here? It's almost like Putin was vetting his own choices for the Trump administration positions.
Putin: My little Donaldova, this Betsy DeVos, she is brain dead this one. We would choose her to destroy your education system. You make this happen, da?
Trump: Yes, of course, Vladimir Vladimirovich.

Re: Trump Accuses Obama of Wiretapping his Phones
I guess as part of keeping a complete record we're obligated to record that Trump just today accused Obama of wiretapping his phones:
Don't suppose anyone would be all that surprised to learn the wire taps were set up by the Russians trying to keep closer tabs on their new investment.

I read somewhere ...
Not in those same words but the ideas I think you refer to appear in The Federalist Papers, nos. 65 & 66. These were particularly involved with the political nature of impeachment, as opposed to the criminal nature of other prosecutions, and why they chose a larger body of politicians to sit in judgement rather than a smaller panel of jurists.

Re: I'm Done with Michael Avenatti
He may well be guilty, but this is a guilty until proven innocent system. In what conceivable way might Avenatti "prove himself innocent"?
In a court of law you are correct. In the court of public opinion things can be different. The only thing we can do is wait until all the liars stories are available and then compare. Let the investigation run its due.
Given the history of abuse in this country, especially among men of prominence and power, we must consider the victims statements as plausible, not necessarily true, but given the benefit of any doubt until something shows otherwise.

Re: I'm Done with Michael Avenatti
this "lets get a celebrity to run instead of a politician" thinking needs to stop here and now.
In this instant electronic media world there is no longer a difference.

Re: Any ideas what events are affecting the stock market?
Does anyone have an analysis of the recent drop in stock prices?
From my reading:
The markets do not like uncertainty.
Government shutdown, China trade war, European (Brexit) issues, skittishness over the troop withdrawals and resultant power shifts ...
It also does not like interest rate increases, even when justified.
Market has also been somewhat overvalued for many months now with high price-to-earnings ratios.
Put them all together in one package and ...

Re: Literally *and* Seriously
There are reportedly more illegal Canadian immigrants than Mexican/Central American, so why isn't ICE conducting an intensive Operation Wetback type of campaign to round up and deport those Canadians, eh?
Skin color has nothing to do with it. Canadians don't bring drugs, rape and disease with them. They bring maple syrup, apologies and geese. And besides that, they're white.

Re: Trump's Wall and Funding the Government
The key will be to see how individual states stand and how the military stands. He is not well loved by military brass or rank and file, but enough are trumpers to mean a huge potential for violeny conflict.
I won't say you're wrong, but I have a different, maybe more optimistic, view.
This is a test. Can the organs of governance as structured in the Constitution preserve the ship of state through this fractured period of our society? We've been through this before and had to fight a devastating war to persevere. We have also been through these bouts of bigoted selfish populism before, though not as caustic as we are seeing today.
I am optimistic we can persevere again once we have rid ourselves of that jingoistic narcissistic moron in the Oval Office. The question is how much damage to the nation, and to the world, will we suffer in his wake.
I fear Putin is close to getting what he bought and paid for. The destruction of the United States as a world power. The tipping point is near.
Hey, we did it to them a generation ago. Payback's a bitch.

Re: Trump's Wall and Funding the Government
Can the union survive two more years of him, or six and still be the same union? I doubt it.
We shall see.
Hey, we did it to them a generation ago.
In actuality they did it to themselves. The economic system they chose was unsustainable. The economic system they have in Russia currently is also unsustainable. Our economic system is sustainable it is our social system that is unsustainable.
Almost right. Their economic system sucked, for sure. But we pushed all their military and geo-political buttons with the intention of further destabilizing their screwed-up system as they tried to play catch-up.

Re: 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset
I think the most important reason Trump continues to work for the Russians is because Putin has the pee video.

The next election will come and go before anything useful, like impeachment and conviction, result from any of this.
Maybe pull a Nixon? Resign under pressure from major republicans with the understanding of a full pardon from ... ech, gag ... President Pence?

Re: Trump Committed Obstruction of Justice While in Office
This could get interesting.
Mueller's office, which seldom says anything about anything, put out a statement denying the BuzzFeed report that President Trump directed his attorney Cohen to lie to congress about Trump Tower - Moscow.
quote:
BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the special counsel’s office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony are not accurate, said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller.
On the other hand, Buzzfeed is unyielding:
quote:
Ben Smith, said, We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he’s disputing.
Washington Post
I note that the Mueller statement DOES NOT SAY the BuzzFeed report is outright bogus but that its characterization of the documents and testimony are not accurate. That leaves open a wide swath of potential documentation and testimony that may somewhat support the BuzzFeed report if not in specifics.
