Allow me to repeat what I added to Message 1469 which you probably overlooked: And the comparison of tongues-speaking with Tourette's is a massive fail. Tourette's comes over a person suddenly and can't be controlled, causing both jerky movements and voiced profanities. Tongues speaking can be started and stopped by the speaker, it is completely within our control. I don't think it's a genuine gift of the Spirit, I think it could be demonic or it could be what Watchman Nee said, a remnant of the "soul power" Adam and Eve had that gets stimulated in a spiritual context. But it is nothing like Tourette's, which is likely demonic but not the same kind of thing in any case.

No it is not false, I had the "gift" and I know it is wholly within the control of the person who has it. And again, in my experience, as described, a whole room full of people spoke in tongues on demand and stopped on demand. You don't know what you are talking about.Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

You have one example. I have dozens.And you admit that you don't believe your "gift' was real. I believe speaking in tongues is real; it's a function of mind - and it is, from dozens of examples, very similar to Tourette. It is involuntary. The speaker hardly knows that it happened.

There is evidence of mental illness. There is no evidence of spooks.

No I did not say it is not REAL, it's completely real. And stop lying. I know lots of people who speak in tongues and it is not like Tourette's. Stop with the stupidities, they are tiresome.

There's lots of mental illness that is misdiagnosed.

A second set of eyes is helpful, though not necessarily qualified. I won't attempt to defend my subjective experience as anything supernatural. It was unexplainable. The chipmunk voices sounded as if they came from an echo chamber, and there was also lots of other sounds with them. It most definitely was not as if a voice actor were hiding behind the couch. Also at that precise moment, I had a strong urge to surrender...but not to bow at the feet of the voices! I realized---at the moment I heard what I heard...that the experience was confirmation of what I already believed anyway. This is why its hard to discuss such things with reasonable yet naive people. You want me to throw away all of my conclusions...indeed belief itself...in the name of a form of rationality backed by NOTHING.
