Faith writes: DrJones* writes: he's not lying? He claimed to their faces that he got them a greater than 10% pay raise when in fact it was much less. I can chalk up his lie about how long it's been since they got a raise to his general stupidity, but the actual amount is something he claimed to have had a personal hand in. That kind of discrepancy can't be a lie, it's too blatant. Claiming that he gave the military a 10% raise is a blatant lie. That you are defending it as not a lie is proof that Trump supporters don't care about truth. They only care about being told what they want to believe anyway: "Build the Wall!" "Lock her up!" "CNN Sucks!" "ICE, ICE, ICE" "Drain the swamp!" Stop viewing the world through Trump colored glasses. Condemn wrong wherever you find it, just as Democrats condemned Al Franken a while back, and just as they're condemning Democratic Virginia Governor Ralph Northam now. Lies that what you'd like to be true are actually true may be very comforting, but the real truth will set you free. --Percy

Faith writes: The reason we have the Electoral College is that the popular vote is a false representation of the nature of the country. The densely populated areas all vote as one anyway, so you can count that three million and much more as one urban-centered Leftist vote. Just look at this sea of red:
By your logic we should count all that red as just one rural-oriented right-wing vote. Of course the truth is much more complicated, and I won't attempt a full analysis here, but briefly, because there are so many thinly populated rural states the electoral college, by giving at least three votes to every state regardless of population, is biased toward the rural states. With the commercialization of farming and ranching by huge food conglomerates, and with the decline of American manufacturing (priced out of the market by countries with lower wages), there is a large segment of America that has become disenfranchised and is looking for someone to blame. But there is no one and nothing to blame. Nothing ever stays the same. Rome doesn't rule the world, Britannia doesn't rule the waves, and America's post WWII dominance is gradually dissipating. Americans will have to find their way in this new world while trying to avoid wasteful reactions like scapegoating and following demagogues. --Percy

As I predicted, handwaving away the facts.

The electoral college makes sure the rural areas won't always be overshadowed by the urban areas, by favoring states as such over population. There is no particular bias to the rural areas, it just gives their votes a proper balance. Without the electoral college they'd never be heard from at all.

Perhaps he knows a lot more than you are willing to grant.

I don't see any "constant craving for praise" and don't know where you get that.

Trolling.
Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

He demonstrates that he doesn't every day.

Faith writes: The electoral college makes sure the rural areas won't always be overshadowed by the urban areas, by favoring states as such over population. It gives the rural states a voice out of proportion to their population, which through most of our history has worked out well. Especially as population flowed into cities it gave a voice to the less and less populated rural areas that was important to keeping them connected to the rest of America - one example is rural electrification and phone service, mandated by Congress. Farm subsidies is another. But desperation in rural regions, whose concerns had perhaps not been given sufficient consideration, gave rise to the Tea Party and the Freedom Caucus and sent uncompromising ideologues to Congress who were so tightly wrapped in their righteousness that they embraced undemocratic tactics to further their ends, such as their manipulation of the judiciary by holding up Obama appointments, including one to the Supreme Court.
There is no particular bias to the rural areas, it just gives their votes a proper balance. Without the electoral college they'd never be heard from at all. That's a legitimate concern, but what is Trump doing for rural regions? Wouldn't they be better served by a president from Montana, Wyoming or one of the Dakotas, rather than from a Manhattan skyscraper? Trump makes the people at his rallies feel empowered while not giving them any power at all. --Percy

To my mind that statement shows an abysmal lack of understanding of what brought about the Tea Party and the election of Trump both. To call them "uncompromising ideologues" when such a term really describe the Left is utterly bizarre to me. And interfering with judiciary appointees is even more aggressive from the Left. The politicization of the judiciary is the root problem and that's the Left's doing. You inhabit some other planet, with all the Lefties here. The chasm seems to be unbridgeable.

I listened to the first few minutes and may eventually listen to the rest, but if it goes on in the same vein I certainly don't see any personal need for praise in him, he may exaggerate the achievements of his administration, but I'm not even sure he's doing that, but his focus is on the work he wanted to do and is doing, not on himself.
