Conspiracy Theorist And Frequent Presidential Candidate Lyndon LaRouche Dies At 96

A classic American POS.
Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

A classic American POS. Yep, that's for sure. I remember, maybe back in the '80s, when he would do these long (30-60 minute) rants that ran on late night TV. Entertaining. Looking at things in 2019, LaRouche can't hold a candle to Trump as far as being completely nuts. Trump being president is as anomalous as LaRouche becoming president. We're in an alternate universe. What if Eleanor Roosevelt had wings? -- Monty Python One important characteristic of a theory is that is has survived repeated attempts to falsify it. From Tim Page, via Facebook:
André Previn, a musical polymath who began composing for Hollywood at 16, won a quartet of Oscars and had additional careers as a jazz piano phenomenon and major symphonic conductor ” all while forging a public identity as a jet-setter who counted actress Mia Farrow among his five wives ” died Feb. 28 at 89. Mr. Previn was considered something of a playboy as he leaped with swaggering allure between Hollywood and the directorship of some of the world’s leading orchestras, often using his celebrity and skillfulness as a raconteur to bring wider attention to classical music. He won 11 Grammy awards over half a century ” for his film music, for the records he made with jazz ensembles and orchestras he led and, in 2010, for lifetime achievement. “The most impressive aspect of Previn’s career was the ease with which he moved through the full spectrum of American music ” whether jazz or classical, movie soundtracks or TV scores, Hollywood or Broadway, overtly commercial gigs or artistically refined projects,” music historian Ted Gioia said in an interview.- xongsmith, 5.7d

On one level, it's a shame that my enduring memory of him will be his marvelously self-deprecating and impressively comedic performance on the Morecombe and Wise show, over here in the 70s. His life and achievements are obviously much wider and deeper than that. But there is something wonderful about a prominent person who can take the mick out of themselves in the name of making us laugh.
Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Somewhen around 2013 he participated in a prank with a long-standing German program (kind of akin to "Candid Camera"), "Verstehen Sie Spa?"(Do You Understand Funny?) -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzjL-txuGcw .. Verzeihung, aber alles auf Deutsch.
He came on a standard show for a standard interview, but when he opened his violin case, it was not there. The entire scene devolved into "Wo ist meine Geige?"(where is my (extremely expensive) violin?). At one point, they even bring in a security man still wrapped up in duct tape. He had been hit on the head, but André still wanted to know, "But where is my violin?"("Aber wo ist meine Geige?"). Finally, a violin case arrives, but the "extremely expansive violin" is utterly destroyed. But the show's host recognizes the agent delivering the violin case as being from the "Verstehen Sie Spa?" show and the entire deception falls apart at that point.

To have survived 850 years of ancient workmen with flaming torches only to succumb to modern workmen with electric lights. Talk about your big-time screw-ups. The smarter and stronger we get the dumber and more dangerous we seem to become. I think the general contractor should get his ass out of France and hide somewhere in Tibet for the next few decades.

I used to work near Notre Dame, and it is such a shame that so much of it has been lost. It's an amazing site, with such a powerful history and depth of meaning for the French people.
I do find something striking though - maybe disturbing. I understand and fully share the view that our history and culture is incredibly important and never to be ignored. Notre Dame is a particularly powerful example of that. But in the space of 24 hours, hundreds of millions of Euros have been pledged to restore the building, with more monies pouring in by the minute. This for the restoration of a building which is at the heart of the Catholic Church, one of the wealthiest institutions in the world; at the heart of the French nation, which isn't exactly on the bread line; and probably in respect of damage caused by a contractor who will surely be insured. Why is this level of generosity lacking when it comes to feeding the poor; helping the ill and disabled; responding to global disasters ? I live in hope that any funds raised, and which aren't needed (eg due to insurance being available), will be used to address more urgent humanitarian needs. That would seem more reflective of the message which Notre Dame supports.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
