Windmill Sounds Cause Cancer
Trump’s long history of pushing wild misinformation about wind turbines
quote:
President Donald Trump is a climate change denier and renewable energy hater. That much has been clear for a long time. But during a speech on Tuesday evening, he took the flawed arguments he’s been making against wind energy to new levels of absurdity.
Addressing the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), Trump claimed that sounds made by wind turbines cause cancer.
“If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value,” Trump said. “And they say the noise causes cancer. You tell me that one, okay? Rerrrr rerrrr!”

dementia or something
I can, sort of, understand some people (like Faith) supporting some Trump policies. I can even understand someone like here shouting "fake news" about a lot of things.
What I can't understand is someone watching Trump speak and not being terribly embarrassed. He is either very stupid or is, in fact, suffering from dementia.
It can't be shouted down by "fake news" because there is no reporting on it or anything you just have to watch him on camera. But the Trump supporters here don't seem to notice how horrible it all is.

It is embarrassing and chilling, to know he's the president of the United States, and knowing he is a psychopath, a narcissist, incredibly stupid, and clearly has dementia.
But the Trump supporters here don't seem to notice how horrible it all is.
And they cheer as he dismantles everything good about our government. Mass psychosis or mass dementia.
The whole planet should be fearful.

Re: dementia or something
I’m getting pretty worried, myself. We have a couple of thousand wind turbines within thirty miles of here, and I’ll just bet that their unamerican terrorist immigrant carcinogenic noise is sneaking into our houses right now!!11!
I’ll keep an eye on the epidemiology reports and keep you all informed. Though those are from the CDC, so they are prolly Liberal Bias Fake News. ‘

The birds may help save you as they are on a concerted effort to bring the towering beasts down. I’ve been talking to them about not slamming into the blades but into the opening of the cowling surrounding the generator itself but since they don’t speak Norwegian it’s difficult to get the concept across. Problem is I don’t speak Norwegian either which makes things doubly difficult.

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Fake News
As for what Faith thinks is fake news; how the heck can I tell? The overall impression is that she uses that to pretend to be rebutting anything she doesn't like.
Like absolutely any thing she is arguing about you'll never get her to be clear about it for one of two reasons:
1) She is utterly unable to articulate her thoughts.
2) She may actually have just barely enough understanding in some cases (but few) that if she is clear her argument will be rebutted easily.
So why would anyone talk to her?
However, some Trump supporters may cry "fake news" to any hints that he has cheated on his taxes, that he is as rich as he claims or that his father wasn't born in Germany since they think that the source of any evidence for such things is corrupt.
The threshold for using "fake news" is obviously very, very low.
Since the supporters are unable to tolerate the idea he may lie about such things they need a universal fact blocker so they use it and I might understand a little of why they do.
But just looking at the man talk doesn't repel them!!! That is amazing to me. That I can't wrap my head around at all.

That perfectly describes my reaction also. Watching him insult them over and over and they cheer, WTF? (I love the uneducated. Trump, 2016) (Believe me, this tax bill is really going to hurt me. Trump 2017).
I watched this happen to my oldest friend, I'm baffled! He was a police detective for fucks sake! He could always spot a lie and a liar.

Oh, okay, I misunderstood.
So why would anyone talk to her?
Good question.
However, some Trump supporters may cry "fake news" to any hints that he has cheated on his taxes,...
But there's nothing fake in reporting that Richard A. Neal (D-MA), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, requested six years of Trump's tax returns, or in reporting anything that Democrats or Republicans said or think about the request or about Trump's returns themselves. That news (from the New York Times, for example: House Democrat Demands Six Years of Trump Tax Returns From I.R.S.) is completely accurate. There's nothing fake about it.
...that he is as rich as he claims...
But there's nothing fake in reporting that Michael Cohen said that Trump consistently overstated the value of his properties to banks while understating it to property tax authorities, or that the Southern District of New York intends to investigate Cohen's accusations.
...or that his father wasn't born in Germany...
It is a fact that Fred Trump was born in the Bronx. There's nothing fake about reporting facts.
I'm just looking for actual examples of fake news.
The threshold for using "fake news" is obviously very, very low.
I don't think they're using a low threshold for fake news but are just calling fake any news they don't like.
Since the supporters are unable to tolerate the idea he may lie about such things they need a universal fact blocker so they use it and I might understand a little of why they do.
They don't mind saying things that aren't true if it makes them feel better?
A bit of humor - here's Trump trying to talk about the origins of the Mueller investigation:

Christian Group Publishes Anti-Trump "Chick Pub"
https://www.seattletimes.com/...i-trump-gospel-with-cartoons
quote:
Little Dickie Glitz was born rich. His parents gave him lots of stuff, but he was never satisfied and always hollered for more. His parents were lax in the manners department, so Dickie earned a reputation as the loud, spoiled neighborhood brat. The other kids didn’t like to play with Dickie ” every time he started losing a game, he stormed away, yelling: “I quit! This game is rigged!”
These habits continued into adulthood, and Dickie became a rich, arrogant loudmouth who made a deal with a devilish-looking guy (who bore a striking resemblance to Vladimir Putin) and somehow got elected President of the United States.
quote:
“I’m Rich!” and its companion tract (“Good Morning Amerika”) were created and published by an enigmatic group called Patriotic Christians for a Better America (PCBA), who have been anonymous ” until now.
quote:
In January 2017, right around the time of President Trump’s inauguration, a group of Seattle friends (an artist, a doctor and a few others ” who grew up in a variety of faith backgrounds) got together for a dinner party. Everyone was miserable.
“It was just people sitting around feeling broken,” said Barry, one of the friends, who asked to be identified by his first name. The reality of Trump’s new presidency and concern about worst-case scenarios (which could change the lives of their friends, patients, of immigrants, Muslims and whomever else was vulnerable to Trump supporters’ most extreme and least charitable impulses) hung over the table like a ghoul. “It was just shock and worry,” Barry said, “asking ourselves: ”What should we do?'”
“I don’t even like thinking about how I felt then,” said Kathryn Rathke, the artist. “It really was kind of hysterical, the panic.” Among them, everybody in the group felt like they’d exhausted their options to resist the rise of President Trump: volunteering, donating, protesting, networking.
Then inspiration struck: Chick tracts. Why not write and draw a parody of Chick-tract-style cartoons, but with a twist? Instead of the scare-’em-straight evangelical Christianity of the originals, they could make wry but serious cartoons about a different kind of wayward soul, a sorta-kinda Trump-ish character, then circulate them around the country. It would be satire in the classic mold of Jonathan Swift or Stephen Colbert ” humorous, with a strong undercurrent of real-life urgency.
. . .
“{Chick Pubs are} just sad little tracts,” Barry said. “Insanely negative, no nuance, screaming all the time, a lot of hating others.” Which, he said, made them a fitting inspiration. “The Trump administration feels like a Chick tract. It’s all so loud. When I think back to somebody I disagreed with in the past, President George H.W. Bush, at least there was some nuance. Now it’s all yelling and cartoons.”
“The idea took hold right away,” Rathke said. “Most things the Chick tracts address is so much hyperbole, fire and brimstone ” but in this case it seemed to fit: ”OK guys, we have a real fire-and-brimstone situation. This is serious.'”
PCBA was born.
quote:
In the final image of “I’m Rich!,” Dickie Glitz stands on the White House roof, waving a bullwhip, yelling: “Mine! ALL MINE! Ha ha! I AM THE BEST!” while the Putin-ish devil grins in a corner.
The last page is blank except for the words: “ . Jesus wept.”
Edited by dwise1, : Added quote about the inspiration for this tract

Thanks, Trump!
Generally, Canada has had a "brain drain" problem.
That is, many of the smartest and brightest of us in various areas (doctors, scientists, engineers, programmers...) learn and grow in Canada, but eventually move to the US in chase of higher $$$.
It's always something that's referred to and mentioned whenever a report shows a few people leaving Canada and going to the US.
It's never been (or turned into) a critically issue or criple any industry or anything like that... - but it certainly does exist and can sometimes rise to the level of "significant to mention."
This all seems to have been reversed for certain tech industries somewhat due to the current USA immigration policies.
Canada is becoming a tech hub. Thanks, Donald Trump!
quote:
US companies are going to keep hiring foreign tech workers, even as the Trump administration makes doing so more difficult. For a number of US companies that means expanding their operations in Canada, where hiring foreign nationals is much easier.
...
CompeteAmerica, a pro-immigration coalition of employers whose members include Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, wrote to Homeland Security last fall saying that Trump’s immigration policies were bad for business and their employees.
Business Roundtable, an association of top US CEOs that includes Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Tim Cook, and IBM’s Ginni Rometty, expressed a similar sentiment in a letter to Homeland Security last year.
So, thanks 'merika! Making Canada Great Again!

Julian Assange Arrested
Julian Assange Arrested, Faces U.S. Charges Related To 2010 WikiLeaks Releases
quote:
The Justice Department announced Thursday that it is charging Julian Assange, setting the stage for a historic legal showdown with the controversial founder of WikiLeaks.
The unsealing of an indictment dated more than a year ago followed a whirlwind reversal of fortune for Assange, who was ejected from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he confined himself for years, and then hauled into custody by officers of the Metropolitan Police.
British authorities have received a request to extradite Assange, they said. He is expected to appear at a hearing on June 12.
Justice Department investigators have described the key role that they say Assange and WikiLeaks played in the Russian attack on the 2016 election, but the charges announced on Thursday allude to an earlier chapter in his long-running drama.
This will be entertaining. A new "Breaking News" headline for cable media.
It will be interesting to watch how Trump TV reports the story compared to the rest.

Re: Julian Assange Arrested
Wikileaks was involved in the Russian support for Trump.
We can’t expect Trump to show gratitude - but it is possible that Assange knows something that Trump wants kept under wraps.
Personally I hope Assange goes to Sweden to face the charges there.

In Message 2805 I said:
quote:
But once in the US Assange could also be served subpoenas for issues relating to the Russia probe, if only the Russia probe still existed. This means he will instead be subpoenaed to testify before various House committees about his role in the theft and release of emails from the DNC and from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta in an attempt to establish whether Trump and Russia were merely fellow travelers or actual co-conspirators.
Because of this possibility, I think it likely that Trump will order the DoJ (i.e., newest Trump lapdog Attorney General William Barr) not to request extradition of Assange to the United States.
Back to your post:

Sweden dropped the charges long ago because of the passage of time.
