Re: The Shooting of Justine Damond Goes to Court
Being a Minnesota resident, this is one I hear about quite a bit (but haven't here followed your links or done any detail (re)checks). It has the strange twist(s) that the shooter officer is a black emigrant from Somalia and the victim is a white woman from Australia. This brings up the situation that a white officer can get away with shooting a black, but not so much the other way around. Moose

Re: Minneapolis Police Officer Convicted Of Murder In 911 Caller Death
Minneapolis agrees to pay $20 million in death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond quote: A few days after officer Mohamed Noor was convicted of murdering Justine Ruszczyk Damond, the city of Minneapolis agreed to a record $20 million settlement. The city of Minneapolis will pay the family of Justine Ruszczyk Damond a record $20 million to settle a lawsuit over her July 15, 2017, shooting death by a Minneapolis police officer. Mayor Jacob Frey announced the agreement solemnly at a news conference Friday, flanked by City Council members, the city attorney and the police chief. The deal stipulates that the family will donate $2 million of its settlement to the Minneapolis Foundation's Fund for Safe Communities, a program set up to fight gun violence in the city, Frey said.

Suspect charged in Waseca shooting; officer remains in critical condition
Dated Jan 8, 2020.
quote: According to the BCA, officers responded to reports of a suspicious man with a flashlight in the backyard of a home in a Waseca neighborhood. When they arrived at the scene, they encountered Janovsky, who had an active warrant against him. Officials said the officers did not know about Janovsky’s warrant at the time. BCA Superintendent Drew Evans told reporters at a news conference Tuesday that officers shot Janovsky after he shot Matson.
Source The suspect was non-fatally shot. Is Percy going to argue that these police officers should not have been armed? BTW - Cite found via policeman shot in head minnesota search. Re: It's Worse Than We Thought
I'm not wanting to downplay the tragic police failures such as George Floyd and many others, but... The police, especially in troubled areas of big cities, have a very difficult job. I think that one might need to be crazy to want to step into doing such a job, and/or the job might induce craziness. Not unlike being "the boots on the ground" in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and (?).
