Re: Predictions
Not my words...
"Friday's going to be amazing! I'm going to wake up in my Union Jack jim-jams to the sound of a squadron of Spitfires racing overhead and leaving a trail of hot buttered crumpets behind them
I'll run to the corner shop past all the British children who are laughing and squealing with excitement as they make a beautiful statue of the queen out of happy wriggling bulldog puppies - with two corgis for her eyebrows!
Bunting flutters everywhere and the man from the betting shop steps into the street - "guess what! England just won the World Cup & The Ashes & The Grand National and here's the best bit - Boris put a bet on it for everyone! you're all MILLIONAIRES!!!"
The red arrows fly overhead dropping fish and chips as I walk into the corner shop, get my morning paper and go to the counter. "how much please?" I say to the Asian lad there. "1 pence, everything in the whole shop now costs just 1p!" he laughs, "leave it on the counter, I'm off back to Pakistan - we all are!"
and he's right! outside in the streets jolly old Nigel Farage is leading a huge crowd of happy foreigners - Turks, Poles, Romanians, Syrians - there's even a few English people with heavy suntans mixed up in there! Nigel's playing Rule Britannia on a long pipe, rather like the pipe that takes the gas into your oven, and they're all following and smiling and talking foreign, bless them!
Just then Boris flies overhead in a Concorde made of Bank of England gold - "don't worry!" he laughs "I've cut out all the bits the French made!" and with that he crashes into the ground at 1200 miles an hour, along with the economy, the country and all the dozy nostalgic foreigner-fearing fuck wits who fell for his bullshit."

Stunned and horrified, the Little-Englanders have won.
We now have the very real prospect of P.M. Boris and a legitimised Nigel Farage.
On the plus side at least the NHS will get a much needed 350,000,000 per week injection of cash.... oh, wait...

Re: British PM calls for elections in June

Interesting gambit. I am guessing she is hoping the results solidify her position.
It will, unfortunately. The opposition is defunct.
The tories will gain a substantial majority and run roughshod over the NHS, the Poor, the welfare system and ultimately be able to drag us into a hard brexit completely ignoring the 48% who voted to remain.

Re: House of Lords delivers setback to May
Is that a realistic position remembering The Troubles and what would the legality be of such a situation
Absolutely no chance whatsoever, the unionists/loyalists in NI would go completely ballistic if this were to happen.
the "troubles" would seem like a kid's birthday party compared to the hell that would break loose

Re: Finally some clarity!
I think this might be the quote you were thinking of
indy100 - 404 Not Found
quote:
The conservative MP Ben Bradley is in the House of Commons. He voted to remain, then became a Brexiteer, then voted against the deal, then voted for the deal, then said he’d struggled to back the deal again but now says he will back the deal.”
Mr Bradley, why do you get to change your mind?

Labour’s policy is pro-Brexit and they are reluctant to even go with a second referendum.
There appears to be a whiff of change in the air in this respect:
not explicitly to reverese Brexit, but increaseing likelyhood of a confirmatory vote.
Brexit: Cross-party deal must include new referendum - Sir Keir Starmer - BBC News
Keir Starmer makes a point in his guardian interview that although the LIb Dems are the major "Remain" party, (their EU election material bears the headline "Bollocks to Brexit"), they are unlikely to be in a position to action that opinion unless there is a general election.
But, as it stands the EU election is the mother of all protest votes and will be seen as a massive opinion poll on brexit.
So as voters we have a choice:
-Vote Labour or Tory for pro-brexit but with a deal, (A deal that shows no sign of being agreed or ratified).
-Vote Lib Dem to register our oppostion to brexit in all its forms.
-Vote Brexit to register our support to leaving on WTO terms.
none of this will be binding, and as I said will simply be indicitave of the prevailing mood.
The two main parties have already been hurt badly in the local elections, with the party making the most gains being the Lib Dems. But the Lib Dems are still suffering the backlash for going into government with the tories during the Cameron/Clegg Years.
In a different universe they (Lib Dems) would have gone into coalition with Labour under Ed Milliband and there would never have been a referendum.

Lib Dem isn’t the only Remain option
not the only, but the major.
Change uk are as rudderless as the tories and labour and will struggle to gather much support.
I mean, the optics of it aren't good, a bunch of "remain" politicials preaching about reform from the inside as being the best way of changing/improving the EU, who had to "Leave" (their parties) to begin to achieve their aims...
apparently Irony free.

Do the EU elections have any form of proportional representation? or is it FPTP?

Happy Boris Day everyone!
future generations will mark this day by wearing ridiculous blonde wigs and spending the day lying compulsively, to remember when the UK got its worst Prime minister ever.
May God help us all.

Re: Still curious about In and Out!
Agreed, they really didn't consider this at all.
this twitter thread show the absolute impossibility of any "technology" managing the British border in Ireland.

Re: So now what?
Because the population of Northern Ireland is comprised of two (main) factions
Unionists: Staunchly Pro-Union, Loyal to the Crown.
Nationalists: Desiring reunification on the Island of Ireland
A union with Scotland would be against the wishes of both of these two factions

Scotland, maybe
But Northern Ireland leaving the UK will end in civil war.

Re: So now what?
Ireland could even secede from the UK and retain connection to the Monarchy as have so many other of the British Colonies.
Ireland fought hard for, and won, independance in 1922
