If you mean to be using "liberty" in the sense used by the American founders you are abusing the word.
Many of the founding fathers owned slaves, so their opinions on liberty is quite suspect. Also, the founding fathers thought it best for each generation to govern themselves the way they see fit instead of rigidly following dogma laid down by them.

Trashing the founding fathers is just more typical Llftist arrogance.
They were fallible humans like anyone else. What we don't do is treat them like deities. Founding Father worship seems to be more of a thing on the Right.
Actually, supporting abortion makes you anything BUT a moral paragon, and I hope THAT mentality is condemned in a few generations too.
I don't support abortion. I support a woman's right to decide things for herself. I wish abortions never occurred, but I also know it is not my right to tell someone else what to do with their bodies.

It gives me a stomachache to see that anyone would trash the American founders as you and others do. You are courting complete anarchy and the destruction of the nation.
Oh, please. You must run into a lot of tree branches riding around on that high horse.
The founding fathers were human, like us. They had some good ideas, and some bad ideas. They had some ideas that simply didn't pass the test of time. That's fine. No one is trashing the founding fathers. All we are saying is that society has changed, so our laws need to change with it. We certainly aren't saying that we need to get rid of laws altogehter, just change them.
However, there is a historical point to be made, of which you are obviously completely ignorant. Abortion, or really, infanticide, leaving a newborn out exposed to the elements to die a painful death, was a common practice in all the pagan cultures Christianity eventually supplanted in the West.
Those aren't the same thing.

But there, you see, when you say that a termination in the ninth month is for serious health reasons, you're conceding that it's a different situation from a termination at, say, seven weeks.
Everyone concedes that, even SCOTUS as part of the Roe v. Wade decision. Most people are just fine with a ban on elective abortions after the 24th week, the point at which the fetus is viable outside of the womb.
For the record, less than 1% of abortions are "partial birth abortions" (D&X), so that is a red herring.
quote:
According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, an abortion-rights research group that conducts surveys of the nation's abortion doctors, about 15,000 abortions were performed in the year 2000 on women 20 weeks or more along in their pregnancies; the vast majority were between the 20th and 24th week. Of those, only about 2,200 D&X abortions were performed, or about 0.2 percent of the 1.3 million abortions believed to be performed that year.
