But you don’t have to go back far to find higher levels still, do you?

There was no flood until very recently. It's increased a lot in 2019, due to many factors including fear that it's now or never. Note that the top chart is monthly and the bottom chart is yearly. In 2019 to date the total is greater than any yearly total in the last ten years.

It's not a record, but it's high.

My point is to put it into context. While figures are high compared to the last ten years there have been much higher figures in the years before that.The increase is greatly embarrassing to Trump, but it’s the increase rather than the headline figure that is significant at this point.

I was looking for this chart when I composed my previous message. I wanted to use it to illustrate that Trump's claims of a crisis on the border are untrue. Border apprehensions over the past decade have been far lower than all years prior until you get back to the early 1970's, i.e., lower than at any time over the past half century. Trump manufactured the crisis out of thin air.Trump deals only in extremes. For him everything is either the best or the worst. Almost invariably he's making it up.We're only running short of holding facilities because Trump is trying to end the "apprehend and release" approach. Independent of whether that's the right thing do, ending it means there will need to be greatly increased holding capacity, which Trump is loath to do.--Percy

Funny, I've heard a lot of interviews with ICE and border patrol people over the last year or so and they are very clear that there has been a crisis for some time that they are not equipped to handle for lack of funding, thanks of course to the Democrat Congress. They say a wall would help a lot.

List them yourself. I'm not interested in remembering such evll stuff.
