I left home July 1 heading east to ultimately attend a dragonfly meeting in Minnesota. My trip has taken me through Wisconsin three times and to Chicago twice and now I am in Bozeman, Montana.
Sorry to be starting this in the last quarter of the trip, but I wanted to say that I'm visiting the Museum of the Rockies for the first time tomorrow and I'm pretty pumped about it.
I visited Teddy Roosevelt National Parks a couple days ago and photographed some interesting sedimentary deposits and this morning photographed some exposed features in the Hells Creek Formation that include the KT boundary.
My laptop died more than a week ago, so the is being typed on my phone, which I hate. When I get home I can fill in the gaps with exciting tales, but for now brevity.

I'd be pumped for some pics, but wasn't I promised some mammoth pics last year about this time? I don't believe that happened.
ROFL! Have a great trip. Hope to see some great head/thorax/abdomen pics later!

Skimming the news, found this
I think it's an interesting article about a kind-of crowd source for dragonflies, and weird me - I also thought about your work.
Daily Bucket: For blue dasher dragonflies, every picture tells a story, and stories become science
What do biologists do in winter when all their study organisms are inactive and invisible? A grad student at Case Western Reserve pondered something he’d heard about the blue dasher dragonfly and figured out how to use iNaturalist submitted data* to turn that anecdote into research.
Enjoy!

Re: Skimming the news, found this
This research has gotten the attention of a lot of my friends. I hate when aticles about research never give the scientific name of the species in question, in this case Pachydiplax longipennis.
It is a good choice for this kind of study because it is one of the commonest dragonflies across North America and may very well be the most photographed dragonflies. It is less wary than most other species, so easy to get close to.
To me a more interesting question is why some species' wings change color and others do not.

I just heard that Willie Nelson got hit by a car. He was playing on the road again.

On the Road Again Again.
I'm leaving Friday on another road trip. I'm meeting my best friend from Wisconsin at my other best friend's in Chicago. Then caravaning to Louisiana looking for dragonflies and good habitat along the way. We're picking up another friend from Washington in Shreveport and then on to a meeting of the Dragonfly Society of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Then the next week there is an international dragonfly symposium.
I really enjoy driving, listening to classic rock or an audiobook and seeing America. I wonder how much flooding I will see in the midwest?

my best friend from Wisconsin
Be careful. People from WI are kind of odd.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.
If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?
