Congress won't give the money for anything that would help the border situation, for better detention facilities, for more border patrol and other personnel, first of all for the means to prevent such mass immigration in the first place. The workers are stretched to the max and the money isn't there. This isn't the Republicans' doing though of course that's the favorite interpretation these days.

The workers are stretched to the max and the money isn't there. Remember the banking crises? Two of them in the same decade? We can drop $100 billion into the major banks in a few weeks on a hiccup. Money not there, my ass. Not the Republican's doing? Whose been in charge these past few years? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

It's the House that has control of funds and if they won't give it where's it going to come from?
I don't know about the banking crisis. If money is available for anything I understand it's the House that appropriates it. If you know where the money could come from to fund what is needed at the border, when the House refuses to give it, please explain. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. There is a sleazy trick; the Senate takes any bill from the House they don't like, amends it to remove the entire text, and amends it to contain the funding provisions they want. The Constitution says funding bills must originate in the house, but not that the text creating the funding must be in it when it leaves the House.
The House is not refusing money for humanitarian reasons. The Republicans have been insisting on adding what they know is unacceptable baggage. But on Junde 25:

Sarah writes: Does the "before you leave for Phoenix" imply open borders for all except those carrying cholera, trachoma, AIDS, etc.? Is there any valid reasons for not admitting anyone who wants a better life and the chance to work for it and does not show some immediate reason for exclusions? Are diseases that can be treated a valid reason to exclude someone?

The political shenanigans between House and Senate on spending bills is cumbersome and complex in a divided government.
For all those years of Republican control nothing was done to address the barbaric way the border patrol deals with immigrants on the southern border. Now that the Democrats run the House the Senate has/will amend any House bill to delete any $$ to address this issue. This whole thing, the cruelty in the face of already severe deprivation, is purposeful. Republicans are evil.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

One more piece just to emphasize the point.

Given the choice, yes, take the wheat. We still haven't figured out what to do with the chaff that's already here...

I'm certainly in favor of bringing in immigrants. On principle, in fact: I haven't got a pool to clean or a lawn to cut like the plutocrats who want open borders to break unions and impoverish the working classes.
No, I think we need people to come here and it's a kind thing to do to work with people who do come here. But unregulated immigration? Unless Chihuahua, Sonora, Coahuila, Baja, Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon agree to be the 51st through 56th stars in the US flag people are going to have to line up and follow the rules instead of scaling the fence. Anything else is an insult to the good people who do things legally.
