Warren or Harris for me
Right now I am in the Warren camp. My second choice is Kamala Harris. I will support them until or if their candidacy is nonviable. I will support the Dem nominee with money and hours.

If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

Re: Elizabeth Warren?
At this time I am firmly in the Warren camp. She aligns well with my views and she is very accomplished and has solid policy plans.

Re: Hold that thought
Hickenlooper is the Governor of Colorado. Fairly rightest for a Democrat. He has the Obama and Biden curse of thinking the GOP will see the light and work with them for the betterment of society as a whole. Write him off.
He uses "Socialism" as a fear word. There is no place for that in the Democratic Party. We need strong progressives not afraid of socialism for all not just the rich and corporations.
Hickenlooper booed at California Democratic Convention for decrying socialism: 'Read the room' - Alternet.org
stick a fork in him. He is done. Not just as a Presidential candidate but anywhere in the Democratic Party.

Re: Pete Buttigieg
Would rather him as Senator. But that won't happen in Indiana. So VP is a good spot for him. I like Idea of a Warren/Buttigieg or Harris/Buttegieg ticket.

Re: Biden pledges to fight climate change
Biden is not serious about tackling climate change. If he was he would not be using talking points from the coal industry.
quote:
The parallels between Biden's language and that of a coal industry group are particularly noteworthy, given how the former vice president has been criticized as insufficiently progressive on the issue of combatting climate change. CREDO's Josh Nelson drew attention to this Tuesday, when he studied Biden's climate change plan and discovered the language about carbon capture sequestration seemed to mirror that used by the Carbon Capture Coalition, a group which includes Arch Coal, Peabody Energy and Shell. The parallel language included both the Biden campaign and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions’ Carbon Capture Coalition describing the technology as a "widely available, cost-effective and rapidly scalable solution to reduce carbon emissions to meet mid-century climate goals."

As of right now Carbon Capture is none of those things. We know the solution is renewables. Climate Capture is an attempt to keep fossil fuels industry relevant. It will slow down move to zero emmisions and will keep energy costs high. Here are a couple recent looks at carbon capture.
quote:
Next, neither coal nor natural gas with carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is remotely close to zero carbon. For example, the Petra Nova project in Texas combines a coal plant with CCS. However, a natural gas plant was built just to run the CCS equipment, and when accounting for the actual efficiency, natural gas combustion emissions, CO2 combustion emissions, and methane leaks from mining the gas, the plant reduces only 22 percent of the carbon it was designed to over 20 years - at an additional cost of $4,200/MW. That same investment could have been spent on wind and solar to replace the entire coal plant and 100% of its emissions.

quote:
The role of CO2 in oil extraction is what makes many critics think carbon capture and storage won’t help with climate change.
Steven Feit, a lawyer and one of the authors of the Center for International Environmental Law report, said the unbreakable relationship between fuel combustion and CO2 removal helps sustain a vicious circle where fuel is burned, CO2 is produced, then captured, then used to produce more fuel.
“We’re talking about a system that would be making fossil fuels harder to transition away from, while also making it easier for old companies to make more oil. There’s a kind of perverse relationship between all these moving parts,” Feit told Climate Liability News.
Feit said he believes the majority of researchers and engineers studying negative emissions technologies are well-intentioned, but their solutions will not avoid the need for drastic CO2 emissions cuts and the boosting of solar and wind energy.
“What is required to effectively deal with climate change is a transition from the kinds of systems we have to ones which are sustainable and low or zero carbon,” he said.

Re: Krugman: Warren is serious, not Serious
I think Krugman has reconciled himself with the idea of the need for progressive ideas and action. In this piece he clearly shows the difference between Sanders and Warren
Though they have similar political ideology and vision, Warren has a plan for that while Sanders is stuck on the rhetoric.

Re: Warren vs Harris?
Very much agree. Either one will make a great candidate and a great President. Whichever does not become President needs to nominate the other as Attorney General. Right now my VP choice would be Julian Castro.

busing.
Why would you only think you could determine the public mood by only looking at searches for negative things? Sounds just a bit like poisoning the well and very disingenuous.

Gillibrand on White Privilege
Here is a great explanation of white privilege given by Senator Gillibrand. Hopefully she got the questioner to think a little.
The question.
quote:
This is an area that, across all demographics, has been depressed because of the loss of industry and the opioid crisis. What do you have to say to people in this area about so-called white privilege?
Answer
quote:
I understand that families in this community are suffering deeply” and that it “is not acceptable and not OK” for families in the area to experience the financial hardships they have, “but that’s not what that conversation is about.”
What that conversation is about is when a community has been left behind for generations because of the color of their skin. When you’ve been denied job after job after job because you’re Black or because you’re brown. Or when you go to the emergency room to have your baby ” the fact that we have the highest maternal mortality rate, and if you are a black woman you are more four times likely to die in childbirth because that health care provider doesn’t believe you when you say, ”I don’t feel right.’ Because he doesn't value you or she doesn't value you.
So institutional racism is real. It doesn’t take away your pain or suffering. It’s just a different issue. Your suffering is just as important as a black or brown person’s suffering. But to fix the problems that are happening in the black community, you need far more transformational efforts that are targeted for real racism that exists every day. So if your son is 15 years old and smokes pot, he smokes pot just as much as the Black boy in his neighborhood, or the brown boy in his neighborhood, and that Black or brown boy is four times more likely to be arrested. And when he's arrested the criminal justice system might require him to pay bail. 500 bucks. That kid does not have 500 bucks....If it's an adult with a child at home and he's a single parent, no one is with his child? Doesn't matter what he says, "I have a child at home. I have to go home. He's only 12. What am I gonna do?" It doesn't matter. IMAGINE as a parent how you would feel so helpless.
THAT'S institutional racism. Your son will likely not have to deal with that because he is white. So, when someone says "white privilege," that's all they're talking about. It's that his whiteness will mean that a police officer might give him a second chance. It might mean that he doesn't get incarcerated because he just smoked a joint with his girlfriend. I might mean that he won't have to post bail. It might mean that he might be able to show up to work the next day and not lose his job, and not be in this cycle of poverty that never ends. That's all it is.

Re: David Axelrod is a liar ( telling disgusting lies about decriminalization)
Because as it stands, CPB is enforcing laws that Congress passed. And then Congress are the one's who bitch about it as if CPB has any control over what laws are passed. I mean... seriously?
Now you know that that is not true.
