I apologize for my shortcomings.

The idea of decline isn't all that preposterous.Look around, whether it's the bulletholed slums of Detroit or the swamps of New Orleans (where they keep building and re-building the same shacks without remembering that every decade or so a hurricane wipes them out) or the feces-speckled streets of San Francisco or the Midwestern farms eroding away, dumping nitrates, pesticides and herbicides in our water supply or the antibiotic and hormone-laden meat we eat or the overprescribed opiates or the potholed streets and collapsing bridges or the Superfund sites or the bloated, clientelist government or the bloviating politicians who promise the world but forget it has to be paid for . . .Yes, we may indeed be turning into an enormous, well-entertained, obese, caffeinated third-world favela.

We don't know what the Dem choice will be yet, do we?

Guilt by association? Where do you get that?I'm just wondering what is the face of the Democratic Party: politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden or "The Squad"?

Socialism can cause problems. Stalin is a good reminder (Hitler, too, and his National Socialists). Are you going to say Stalin wasn't a Socialist? The "Conquistador" reference was to remind all those "liberals" who complain about white imperialists that the people south of the Rio Grande are descended from Conquistadores (or their slaves, either subjugated natives or those brought over from Africa). As for liberal Muslims, as far as I know, liberals aren't supposed to apologize for "insinuating that American support for Israel is fueled by money from a pro-Israel lobbying group" or say "It's all about the Benjamin's baby!" when complaining about the Jewish lobby. So maybe they're just "muslims" without the "liberal" qualifier. Or maybe senator Bilbo wasn't anti-semitic?

They may get a lot of votes, from a lot of people who will subsequently be disappointed.But then, there's a lot of that going around.

So, the usual left-wing mudslinging.But it doesn't cover up the news headlines that the four up-and-coming standard-bearers of the Democratic Party (you know, the "Squad" that's giving Speaker Pelosi such headaches) are anti-semites and socialists.

You sound like the Christians who complain, when told of the evil people do in the name of Christ, "They weren't real Christians!"

The distinction C. S. Lewis made was between people who profess to be Christians and people who don't. People who profess to be Christians and don't follow the Christian teaching (whatever that is), Lewis chose to call "bad Christians" rather than "non-Christians".
