Re: Corals
Faith writes:
You have no idea what a worldwide Flood wouldl have done so you have no idea whether the corals could have been transported or not.
So now you have a worldwide flood that was violent enough to destroy all traces of civilization before the flood, and at the same time gentle enough not to damage coral.

Re: Corals
Faith writes:
It didn't have to be violent, it just had to be huge, full of mud and debris, and constantly moving in its earliest phase, to destroy everything in its path.
If it destroyed "everything in its path", why didn't it destroy the coral too?

So all of the civilizations were magically in its path and all of the coral was magically out of its path. Curiouser and curiouser. More and more magical. Less and less sensible.

Huge huge gigantic blocks of sediment need huge quantities of water to lay them down.
And hundreds of ordinary flloods year after year provide huge quantities of water.

Funny how the strata just happen to show up regularly enough to form the geological column.
Hint: lots of little floods, often once per year, just like we see in reality.

See the straight line under the darker upper part of the diagram, that runs across the whole diagram from left to right?
That line is just a line. It doesn't exist in reality. The strata are continuous above sea level and below sea level. There is nothing "broken off".

Yes the strata continue from the horizontally arranged pieces of strata whose tops are clearly broken off....
No, nothing is "broken off". The waterline is irrelevant. They're just continuous strata.

Pretty odd then that William Smith didn't include them in his cross section
Huh? The cross-section is exactly what we're talking about - the continuous strata shown in the cross-section. Just pretend the sea level line isn't there. It doesn't add anything to understanding the strata.

That's not the Smith diagram.
Then why are you bringing up a different diagram? The point is that there is nothing "broken off".

This is the original cross section by William Smith.
I think I understand the diagram. (I haven't been corrected by the smart people yet anyway.) What I don't understand is why you think something has been "broken off". It doesn't matter where the water line is. The strata are continuous.

Re: once again now: the strata would originally NOT have been where the diagram has them
Faith writes:
But they would originally have been long lengths of strata right?
They're still long lengths of strata, as I have said. The rest of their length is below sea level but it's still there, continuous.

Re: once again now: the strata would originally NOT have been where the diagram has them
Faith writes:
They originally had other ends.
Well, one end is off the diagram on the right-hand side, so we can't say anything about that end based on the diagram. The ends of the individual strata that are now on the surface will definitely erode, like everything on the surface does. But there's no indication of anything "broken off".
