Neanderthals weren't giants. They were stockier, but shorter than us.

Well let's forget about extinct apes how about what our history books say... I do not consider the Bible to be a history book of any sort.
Could this indeed be the Neanderthal? The bible was written many thousands of years after the Neanderthals became extinct, and there is no real evidence for Neanderthals having interbred with Cro Magnon man, so no, I don't think so. "You're Green, You're Ugly and the Gods Hate You."

A nice little presentation on how the distribution of mitochondrial DNA lineages shows how humans spread out over the world.

How do we know for sure they were not giants?

How do we know for sure they were not giants? Because we know them from skeletons? It's not exactly hard to work out all tall someone, or something, was from its skeleton.

Well I guess that rules that out. Back to the drawing board. Got to love it. Nothing more exciting than learning more and more just how stupid we actually are. This sux. Why is it that learning leads us to be stupider rather than smarter? Seems the more I understand the less I know. What an enigma learning is.

There's a Chinese saying which is something like:
"The mark of true knowledge is to understand how little you know."

quote: Just curious about the diversity in human mito genomes. Perhaps you could post something in the Links/Info forum, might be more appropriate. If you don't have it handy, don't sweat it, just curious.

Since man and Neanderthal coexisted, what are the possibilities that man could have killed and buried the Neanderthals in some sort of ceremonial ritual? How do we know that the tools did not belong to man?

I suppose it is possible and I don't know if there is evidence one way or the other.
If there is no evidence what do you think the most likely true assumption would be? H. Neanderthalis had a brain size about the same as we (perhaps a bit bigger). They are associated with some tool use and fire.(which is guess is, in fact, evidence) Why would any other assumption about their burials be reasonable.

I can't help but to think that they could have actually stole the tools, Jewelry, etc. etc. etc. I am digging as long as there is a human factor involved it's hard for me to rule it out as the cause of fire, tools and jewelry etc. etc. etc..

They didn't always co-exist in all places. Neandertals used their own tools. In fact their tool complexity increased as they aped Homo sapien sapien when they arrived on the scene, they simply weren't as innovative.

I am going to have to reserve judgment on this issue; I know how certain scientists like to jump to conclusions when it suits their intents and purposes. LOL
Time to sift the facts out from all the watered down 'explanations' and see what we see. I am still not convinced regarding the timeline. Could some one give me a crash course on why we are so certaint of the time lines?
