Re: Soopers Goes Gunless
Yet Walmart will not be a gun free zone in most cases. Walmart can post such signs and in states where they carry the force of law it might become a gun free zone, but so far Walmart has only asked folk to not carry a gun openly in their stores. Most of us licensed to carry guns have always respected even the requests not to carry guns in places where the company has a policy against such practices.
But again, that would only have any effect if people actually obeyed both the laws and requests.

It certainly cannot make any claim or pretense of being Christian.

Quit asking the question of how do we know its God!
Why?

God chose us.
And the evidence for that is...?
Phat, I have never turned Jesus basic principles into anything. Rather I simply point to the record of what Jesus is alleged to have said rather than market the carny spiel of the Snake Oil Salesmen.
Why do you ignore logic, reason and reality to embrace the traditional dogma?

Who is "the Government"
Maybe you remember "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before usthat from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotionthat we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vainthat this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedomand that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
We are the Government Phat, Congress and the President and the Supreme Court are simply our representatives.

Re: Who is "the Government"
Unless there is some evidence that there is a reason to keep god there is no problem throwing god away. But often silly things become comfortable to have around, like those worn out jeans or the raggedy chair that just feels right or the carnival glassware the kids won decades ago. If that's the case then sure, keep god on the shelf.
But only humans can feed the hungry, comfort the sorrowful, clothe the naked, protect the helpless, cure the sick or shelter the homeless.

What does the Bible say?
The theme of who should do stuff, God or Man, is seen throughout the Bible. Starting in Genesis one clear example is the story of Joseph interpreting the Pharaoh's dream. In the story God sends a warning to the Pharaoh through dreams but it was left up to the Pharaoh and his people to grow and harvest and cure and store the foods that would be needed during the famine years.
God only pointed out the problem. It was left to man to do what was needed to solve the problem.
The story is often told even in the CCoI but few in the CCoI seem to honestly read or listen or understand what is actually written.

Re: So What To Do?
What is the Companies position? In the Bible the owner of the fields was told not to tell the folk to stop gleaning. It was common to not just allow gleaning but to encourage it when it was not profitable to harvest. Is that not similar to the decision Safeway seems to be making; that it is not profitable to try to stop pilfering?
Trying to say the "Human Heart" has any relevance is just word salad and more of the Carny spiel.
Instead of praying for god to touch him do something to better his day. Wish him a good day but also truly wish him well.
