Re: Raking it in...
He does set the bar high, that's true.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Raking it in...
Indeed - maybe Trump could arrange for large chunks of Finland to be cut up and exported to California to reduce the risk of the fires happening again ;-)

Re: 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset
I honestly think that video would make no difference at all. Trump could literally bite the heads off a row of new-born babies, and his support base would not waver one jot in the face of that.
I suspect it’s more that he knows that Putin would have him killed if he stepped out of line.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Julian Assange Arrested
Just heard a piece on the radio about the Swedish extradition case. It’s quite likely, apparently, that the extradition proceedings could be strung out long enough by Assange’s team, for the limitation period in Sweden to expire. Watch this space.

Re: Trump and Climate Change
Seriously,who does that?
1. Look at the real estate/construction contracts placed by the heavy pollution companies over the next few years.
2. See who they're placed with.
3. See who finances who they're placed with.
4. Trace the connections as best you can, to determine the ultimate beneficiaries.
That should give the question a pretty good answer.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: This is what the world sees
To be fair, about 0.2% of our population is about to vote in as leader of our country a man who couldn't find his own arse if he was given a map, detailed instructions and an experienced proctologist as a guide.
Stupidity is highly contagious, it seems.

A well drawn sketch.
Don’t know if this one’s been posted before, but it’s well written and hits the highlights.

No reason to probe Bidens: former Ukraine prosecutor - BBC News
A BBC reporter has spoken to a former Ukrainian prosecutor, who told the reporter that he had met Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who asked him if it was possible to investigate the Bidens in his country.

On a weird note...
Apparently, one of Trump’s suggestions for the border (as well as shooting migrants in the legs) is a water filled trench stocked with alligators and snakes:

Re: Abiy Ahmed Wins Nobel Peace Prize
True. His supporters would be disappointed if he didn't. If he did something decent, he'd become part of The Evil Establishment, and not One Of Us.

Give paper, page and paragraph where Trump openly solicited a foreign government to interfere with our elections.
Give paper, page and paragraph where Don Corleone openly required Jack Woltz to give Johnny Fontane a part in a movie.

Re: Abiy Ahmed Wins Nobel Peace Prize
Perhaps an anecdote would assist you here.
A barrister I once spoke to told me (and I've since seen it in a cartoon as well), when barristers address each other, prefacing their sentence with the words "with respect", it means "you're wrong". When they say "with the greatest respect", it means "you're very wrong". And when they say "with the utmost respect", it means "send for the men in the white coats".
The beauty of language is that it has many meanings, a large proportion of them non-literal and contextual. The horse's head in The Godfather is one of the classic iterations of that.
People can nitpick all they want over the literal interpretation of Trump's precise language (which is a largely futile endeavour in any event, since his utterances are rarely grammatically coherent, let alone correct). However, if you believe that Trump's clear request to the Ukraine was anything other than a blatantly unlawful request to a foreign government to interfere in US elections, then, with the utmost respect, you are in error.
