Re: Rolled?
I wonder what 50 soldiers as a symbol of America's commitment would do. Doesn't matter now that we've renounced that commitment.
It's good our soldiers are still alive. We don't owe the 10,000 Kurds who died for us anything, they're just brown people. Brown people are just cannon fodder. Their lives don't count.

Re: Rolled?
The Kurds took on the responsibility for eliminating ISIS from the area. They were our allies. Until Trump fucked them over.
How do you think we should treat allies who died for us instead of our soldiers?

Re: Rolled?
Yeah, used to be a world leader
BUSTED: Turkish official says Trump knew ‘precisely’ what Erdogan planned to do with Syria invasion
quote:
Gulnur Aybet, a senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, has told CNN that President Donald Trump knew precisely what his government had planned with its invasion of northern Syria.
Per CNN’s Jim Sciutto, Aybet told reporter Christiane Amanpour that President Trump and President Erdoan have reached an understanding over precisely what this operation is, referring to the Turkish military’s incursion into northern Syria.
Aybet then went on to say that Trump and Erdoan are planning to meet next month to discuss further details of the operation, including what to do about captured Islamic State fighters that remain in northern Syria.
I believe it. It's classic Trumpishness.

Re: Rolled?
I gather you would rather be at war with Turkey.
That's just your fantasy.
Turkey determined it was in their best interest to create a buffer zone between Turkey and Syria in which to settle the millions of Syrians refugees that are now in Turkey and wipe out the Kurds who fought and died for us.
FIFY.
Do you unquestioningly support any decision that Turkey makes?

Re: Rolled?
Alliance with the Kurds and alliance with NATO/Turkey are not incompatible.
The binary thinking that makes them unable to conceive of more than two opposite possibilities seems to be a distinguishing characteristic of RWNJs.

Well, yes, but I was referring to ICant's "Turkey determined it was in their best interest to create a buffer zone."

Re: Rolled?
They are going to release them and hand them a AK47, and ammunition and say come fight with us?
Wow, you have very limited intellectual capacity.
They are going to take the guards away to fight for their lives and abandon the ISIS fighters to do as they will.
So it was either leave them to resume their fighting or go to war against Nato.
False dichotomy.
Do you have a better solution?
Yes. Continue to support them.

Re: Rolled?
Since the Kurds and Turkey have been at war with each other for the past 40+ years how are they compatible?
You really can't see how we can work with both?
What have we been doing?

Re: Rolled?
And just how many hundred years would you suggest we prepare to keep troops there?
As long as we do for our other allies, and maybe longer.

Re: Rolled?
So they did not fight and die for our benefit but for their own survival. We helped them not them helping us.
If not for them our soldiers would have had to fight and die. That's an ally helping us,
We broke them by throwing them to the wolves. And we further broke our reputation as a nation that honors its obligations.
Turks versus Syrian Kurds is not a civil war.

Re: Rolled?
As long as we do for our other allies, and maybe longer.
How many American lives are you willing to sacrifice in such an effort?
As many as it takes, which would have almost certainly been none had we stayed. .
The Kurds are citizens of Syria and Syria is not one of our allies.
The Kurds fought and died for us. We owe them no matter what papers exist or don't exist. We used to endorse the concept of honor. Now we have none.
Turkey has been warning for almost a year that they were going to set up a safe zone in Syria for the 2 million+ citizens of Syria that has enter Turkey to return too and to live in.
So what is the problem with that?
The fact that their real and obvious goal is to wipe out the Kurds.

Re: Abiy Ahmed Wins Nobel Peace Prize
In todays news, it appears that The Republicans (whom he needs on his side to fight the impeachment) have blasted him for the Kurdish situation. The only people whom he has left in his camp are the base.
The Senators will fall in line and acquit no matter what the evidence. That is, if Moscow Mitch lets it get that far.
What I can't figure out is why they are largely Christians!
That's how they label themselves. That doesn't make them followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Re: Rolled?
If you don't like the decision they have made get your senator and enough other senators to declare war on Turkey and go in and literate them.
Wow, you have a very, very limited intellect. The only idea you have is war. And you have no answers to our questions.
The best solution would be to have never started this clusterfuck by leaving the status quo. Since that's obviously impossible I suggest sending our 50 troops back.

Re: Rolled?
Turkey had announced their plans for months what makes you think they would not have carried out those plans. They are armed to the teeth with our best military weapons.
And they are smart enough not to do anything while our troops were there.
Would you be willing to go to Syria and put your life on the line to protect the Kurds?
If you say you are too old and you have children or grandchildren are you willing for them to go to Syria and put their life on the line to protect the Kurds?
Why do you think war is the only answer?
I'm a USMC Vietnam vet. Where were you?
The Kurds have the goal to wipe out the Turks.
Bullshit. The Kurds have a goal of their own country.
[qs]Do you really think we can solve such a problem. The only way to solve the problem would be to kill all of them or for them to decide to stop the feud.[qsy
We had the problem solved, at least for many years to come. Who knows what could be done in those years? And
