The less "fleshly" activity the better, that's all, including digestion. But you can fast from all kinds of things and get some of the same benefits, from sleep, from spending money.
Cults use deprivation like that - to muddle the thought processes.

Sleep deprivation past a certain point can be a problem, but not other kinds of deprivation. But also you need to be focused on the right things or none of it accomplishes anything anyway. Fasting without true prayer may help your health but not your spirit.

No True Prayer. No True Conversion Experience. No True Christian. No True Scientist.
I'm sure you'd agree there are False versions of all these things which does imply there is a True version:
False Prayer would be prayer to Elvis Presley
False Conversion would be changing your mind about the existence of God without any clear direction for your choice
A False Christian rejects what Christianity teaches
A False Scientist would be perhaps an astrologer or a homeopath?

Sure, but your versions of what is "true" are nonsensical.

Re: Matt Dillahunty & his fundie family feud.
Hardly nonsensical. True Prayer is to God according to biblical directives, such as "in the Name of Jesus." True Christianity is a specific body of truths such as if they are rejected makes a person not a true Christian. True conversion is an actual change in the person toward Jesus Christ, a real spiritual change, which is what the word "conversion" means, not merely a change in opinion. I'm sure people here could define "true Scientist" better than I could.

Re: Matt Dillahunty & his fundie family feud.
True Prayer is to God according to biblical directives, such as "in the Name of Jesus."
I think the Jews might disagree with that since they were practicing their prayers to that same one true god a couple thousand years before you Christians usurped the practice with your three-in-one heresy. And the Hindus were praying to their gods thousands of years before that. They helped invent the practice.
You Christians are latecomers, hijackers of an ancient ritual that you tarnished with your evil arrogance, exclusivity and violence. Not a good sign of Jesus’ love.

Re: Matt Dillahunty & his fundie family feud.
Can't help it if Jesus really is God incarnate, no latecomer but the fulfillment of millennia of prophecies. True Prayer has to be in the Name of the true God. No other prayer is acceptable to God after Jesus came, it's a matter of fact, not arrogance, though I know you'd rather call me names. Jews may get their prayers answered still, but other religions are praying to demons and not to God.
Of course it's "exclusive." God came down in the midst of a world ruled by demonic forces and gave us a way out of it. ONE salvation. You can't be saved by any other "god" or religion.
And true Christians don't commit violence but obey Jesus who told us to die to ourselves.

No, My Natasha Fatale, I do not call you names. I call you wrong.
There are neither demons nor gods and your usurpation of prayer is historically inaccurate, self-serving, BS.
You and yours cannot claim any exclusive on prayer. And to try is the very arrogance you said you reject.

How did you come up with THAT weird name?
The arrogance is yours, in spades. You call me names about things you decide without knowledge. I know what I'm talking about, you just believe what you want to believe.

You know where the Fatale comes from. Natasha Fatale was the mysterious lady antagonist in the Rocky & Bullwinkle show. A most adorable and yet tragically wrong character.
You see, I too move in mysterious ways.
Prayer is neither exclusive to your highly specific cult of christian nor is it other than demented fantasy.
It may help you soothe your fears inside your own head, with our own psyche, but that is all it can do. And as such your exclusivity is broken since everyone else has an inside their own head as well.
Your claim to commune with ghosts through prayer is bogus and your claim to an exclusive patent to prayer is quite silly.

I get my beliefs from centuries of theology based on the Bible, all objective sources. You, on the other hand, just believe what you want to believe, and unfortunately it makes you hate me.

Fantasy, Reality, and Perception
And as such your exclusivity is broken since everyone else has an inside their own head as well.
I think I see your point. At best, even God is exclusive to Himself. He is mos def not inclusive within all people, vibes, and spirits. Because of free will we all have access to our own brand. Call it philosophies, world views or zeitgeists.
The kicker is that reality is not always as it seems. Some may imagine that reality is what it is...measurable, predictable, definable. And that religions and untested beliefs are but fantasies. If you were to encounter a man who claimed to speak to napoleon, you could prematurely conclude that he *must* be delusional since napoleon does not currently exist. if this same man claimed to *be* napoleon, you could conclude the same thing. Faiths point is that you yourself use science as a crutch to claim to be all-knowing. (Within the limits of what can be known.) But your exclusivity is as much limited to yourself as hers is to her.
I respect the argument. Many have used it against Christians who push an exclusive truth claim by pushing back with the exclusivity of science.

Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. ~RC Sproul
"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain "
~"If that's not sufficient for you go soak your head."~Faith
You can "get answers" by watching the ducks. That doesn't mean the answers are coming from them.~Ringo
As the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, so the denial of God is the height of foolishness.
