The Right is obviously promoting fear of the Left and using it as a weapon. Note how everyone from the centre to the far left is lumped together. But if we did that with the Right there would be bowls of outrage. Because the Right is worse. How would Faith like to be lumped with the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooter ? (Who she did try to label as a Leftist!)
Indeed there is a lot of harassment, including death threats from the Right. Need we mention Gamergate or Comicsgate or the insane conspiracy theory of Pizzagate - which lead to a man invading a pizza parlour with an assault rifle, looking for an imaginary cellar. Indeed a lot of the trouble the Right faces on social media is due to the fact that too many of them are just plain awful. (See 8chan for a terrible example)
We’ve already seen that Hyroglyphix unable to find a label for people who would be mainstream leftists in Western Europe, because Centrists are being called Communists and labelled as extreme.
And of course much of this is an attempt to cover up the nastier realities of the Right. Whatever Trump believes he has pandered to and appealed to racists. There is no doubt that Laura Ingraham’s complaints about demographic changes are all about race. Honest people would admit this. Instead we get told that the accusations are false in spite of the evidence. Crying wolf is not a tactic that indicates a genuine concern.
So yes, generalised fear of the left is a problem - a problem created by the Right, by people like Dennis Prager.

Re: Nice hate piece hit job on liberalism
Please explain how Sebastian Gorka (b 1970) could have lived under Naziism and finally was able to escape from it

There certainly are people on the right who do all that and worse. Surely you must know that much.
E.g at the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville
Saturday morning worshippers at synagogue Beth Israel, faced with men in fatigues with semiautomatic rifles across the street, and a call on Nazi web sites to burn their building, felt it prudent to exit the synagogue through a back door, carrying their Torah scrolls with them.

Irony
Donald Trump Jr. launched his book Triggered: How The Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us yesterday
He walked out of the launch, without giving his talk because of Right-wing hecklers
Donald Trump Jr walks out of Triggered book launch after heckling — from supporters
I’m willing to listen Trump began.
Q and A! Q and A! the audience yelled back.
We’ll go into the lion’s den and talk Trump tried again.
Then open the Q and A! came the immediate response.
Guilfoyle, forced to shout to make herself heard, told students in the crowd: You’re not making your parents proud by being rude and disruptive.
She and Trump Jr left the stage moments later.

No it's becvause I know the kind of reception Trump Jr. Has been getting on the various conservative talk shows and your report doesn't reflect that reception
And why would it ? It should be easy to find talk shows that aren’t affiliated with the group that heckled him.

Harassed by the Right
Just one example:
Detained for Speaking Spanish
Background here:
KRTV
A woman and her friend - living in Montana - were just out to buy groceries when a Border Patrol Agent asked them for ID - just because they were speaking Spanish. They showed ID but after 17 minutes the officer still had their ID, so they asked for it to be returned. It took another 18 minutes before they were allowed to do. The women sued for unlawful detention. The woman in the video also recorded the latter part of the incident and posted it on social media.
The officer’s behaviour in itself is bad enough - a sign of the obsession with illegal immigrants. Yet, since posting the video and launching the lawsuit, the woman has received so much harassment that she felt that she had to return to Texas.

Electoral Fraud
This is an interesting topic.
Some on the Right are quick to call out Electoral Fraud when they don’t like the outcome of a vote (e.g. Hilary Clinton winning the popular vote over Donald Trump). But the evidence is rarely, if ever forthcoming.
The Right are quick to call for voter ID checks, which would make it harder to vote. But the evidence that such restrictions are justified seems to be absent.
When it comes to securing voting machines - which should be far less controversial - the Right tend to vote the measures down.
And when it comes to proven cases of electoral fraud - guess which side it tends to be. What a surprise!

Re: Irony

And I should trust the Guardian, why?
Actual reporting from the mainstream press has to be better than your prejudices. Especially as you know nothing about the background to the event and don’t seem interested in it.
Thinking about it the Right’s rejection of accurate reporting is another count against them.
quote:
Sorry this is just too fishy. Are you unaware of all the leftist infiltrations of conservative events over the last few years?
I bet you aren’t aware of many actual cases of that,
And I’ve seen a number of reports of conflicts within the Right involving Fuentes and his supporters. Why is it surprising that it would spill over into a book launch ?
Especially when their purpose in coming to the event was being thwarted.

Re: Christian fundamentalim is abhorrent

Christianity is very clear that behaving properly won't accomplish anything.
That isn’t exactly true. What would be the point of avoiding sin if it didn’t accomplish anything ?
quote:
We're destined for Hell from birth. So there is no ground for threatening anyone with Hell for bad behavior.
How about threatening Hell for wrong belief ? We see enough of that.

I believe that Hell was never directly created for humans. Humans only end up there by doing the obviously stupid move of refusing to acknowledge Jesus
In other words Christianity uses the threat of Hell to try to coerce belief. There is nothing obviously stupid about not believing Christianity.

Not at all.
You literally said Humans only end up there by doing the obviously stupid move of refusing to acknowledge Jesus (there being Hell).

Following Jesus or accepting Him is hardly a threat
Do it or go to Hell IS a threat.

Its like choosing oxygen. Why on earth would anybody freely choose to breathe anything else?
You are making no sense. Why would I give in to threats that appear to be completely empty?

Re: Christian fundamentalim is abhorrent

You just can't wrap your mind around God being the only option, preferring what you think is the reality that we are only betrothed to humans.
How is God the only option and why would it be the Christian God if it is?
quote:
If you cant believe in God, at least use your imagination.
Why would that make a difference?
quote:
The default was that humans would never make it long term without Divine help
I’m not sure of that. Depends on how you define long-term. And I think that there are still possibilities. Even if there aren’t we’re all doomed so you have to worship me is not a sensible argument.
quote:
Hell was only a place to dump the rebel angels and spirits. You cant obviously allow them to run around the house any more than letting rats run around yours.
That’s completely irrelevant to what I’m saying.

Re: Cosmic Tyrant an invention of atheists
quote:
Sin caused everything you impute to God.
Not really. First you claim to be a Calvinist, so both the sin and the effects are by God’s choice. Even if you give up on Calvinism the effects have to be God’s choice. (Oh, and the Cosmic Tyrant is definitely an apt description of the Calvinist God - are you claiming that atheists made up Calvinism)
quote:
When a creature puts itself at odds with the Creator of all things the whole fabric of everything comes apart at the seams.
Well-made objects aren’t fragile like that. Either this coming apart at the seams is intentional or very poor design or workmanship.
