Greenhouse Gas Emissions Are Still Rising, U.N. Report Says
quote:
Greenhouse gas emissions have steadily risen for the last decade despite the current and future threat posed by climate change, according to a new United Nations report.
The annual report compares how clean the world's economies are to how clean they need to be in order to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change a disparity known as the "emissions gap."
However, this year's report describes more of a chasm than a gap. Global emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gasses have continued to steadily increase over the last decade. In 2018, the report notes that global fossil-fuel CO2 emissions from electricity generation and industry grew by a mammoth 2%. (...)The report comes just a few weeks before world leaders meet in Madrid for the annual Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, where they will discuss whether to make bolder national promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. The report warns that countries must promise to reduce emissions three to five times more than they already have.
I seriously doubt that it can be done. It will get tied up in political gridlock and while the politicians fiddle, Rome burns.
Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. ~RC Sproul

We, humans, are engaged in an ongoing war of ideologies. I see it in this microcosm of EvC Forum just as I see it in the governments and attitudes of people throughout the world. Take your pick: Oppression or Seduction .
