If I were a Russian asset President would I:

- do something outrageously treacherous that impeachment and removal would follow, or

- do a whole bunch of little actions to gaslight Americans and foreign countries into thinking it was just because I was stupid/ignorant/incompetent ... while whittling away at what makes us America?

... just asking.

Enjoy

Both.
How About both?

Let’s say you’re an arrogant billionaire used-to-be and stupid enough to get caught with your pants down and your financial shenanigans exposed to the oligarchs and powers that be in Russia. You get bribed and blackmailed into running for president. You make the deal with the devil. In exchange for help getting elected you make policies, foreign and domestic, to do whatever you are told but you are so stupid and incompetent you look the fool to all the world and screw it all up and get yourself impeached anyway.

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

They are very good at it.
The old Soviet Union was always very good at placing agents in high position of foreign Governments.

The Institutional Knowledge was not lost.

Denigrate and then emasculate the intelligence agencies, particularly the FBI counter-intelligence department, thus opening the door wide for Russia/Putin to insert “Americanized” agents into all levels and functions of federal government.

Also bribe, extort, or just convince the most venal and/or stupid of Republican politicians to spread propaganda to support these actions and suppress any countermeasures. The treason being committed against the United States is not just by one man, it is by the entire Republican core.

I remember when the motto of the GOP was "Better Dead than Red". Now look at the Political Map in the US.

Re: all of the above
None of these things requires Trump to be a Russian agent.

Spreading Russian propaganda

Which happens to coincide with what he wants people to believe. He also spread propaganda from British fascists, but it would be risible to suggest he's in their pay.

Blocking measures to protect elections against more Russian interference

In order to deny allegations that Russian interference may have helped him to the presidency. Simple self-interest, no collusion required.

Abandoning Syrian Kurds so fast the barracks were left up for the Russians to use

Withdrawal of US involvement in foreign wars was a Trump policy since before the election.

Delaying Ukraine aid, to harm their defense against Russia and trust in the US

Which we know was done as part of a petty attempt to smear a domestic political opponent.

Extorting South Korea leaving them more open to China

Don't know the details of what's being referred to here, but it does not appear to have anything to do with Russia.

The extreme Russophobia amongst US Democrats does make you look like the reasonable ones in this argument. No collusion with Russia is required to explain anything that Donald is doing, and assuming it without evidence makes you all look paranoid.

Coincidence of interests does not imply collusion. The Soviet Union once really hoped the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the UK would succeed, and went so far as to secretly funnel them money. Despite the allegations of paranoid right-wingers, however, the CND were not colluding with the Russians and were not Russian agents. They wanted disarmament for their own reasons, and the Soviet government happened to see a coincidence of interest.

NRA complicity
Also bribe, extort, or just convince the most venal and/or stupid of Republican politicians to spread propaganda to support these actions and suppress any countermeasures. The treason being committed against the United States is not just by one man, it is by the entire Republican core.

And I'm sure they can continue to use the NRA to launder money into the elections and connect to the militia organizations to form brown-shirt companies. Get them into ICE to turn that into SS type troops.

Enjoy

Re: all of the above
How many coincidences does it take to make a certainty?

The potential space of identifiable coincidences is near infinite, so as a result it is a certainty that spurious coincidences can be found in any given situation. That's what makes conspiracy theorising so easy.

But that's not really relevant, since that's not the sense of 'coincidence' I used. I just meant 'shared interest'. Listing interests that Trump shares with the Russian government does not make him more likely to be acting as their paid, or blackmailed agent, regardless of how many you come up with. Acting in Russia's interests contrary to his own would be evidence.

Re: all of the above

Curiously I am not really interested in #DumbtyTrumpty in this thread, but how a hypothetical Russian asset President would behave.

Don't know the details of what's being referred to here, but it does not appear to have anything to do with Russia.

Weakening support of allies makes all allies wary of future support against enemies.
