Re: Democrats Should Accept Advice of Republican Witness
Trump has committed multiple impeachable offenses, but if only Ukraine articles of impeachment reach the Senate then for that trial its a one-off crime. The first successful removal of a president will require a broad range of charges that are deep in evidence.
So would it not be useful to put together a timeline of all the impeachable offenses, from asking for Russian assistance during his campaign up to today?
List all the subpoenas that have not been complied with would be a start.
To drive the point home, they could start arresting them for non-compliance.

Here's the problem in a nutshell:
Anyone with doubts should read this, then do what Elissa has done, and then base their conclusions on the facts and not on wannabe conspiracy theories.
quote:
Rep. Elissa Slotkin: How I reached my decision on impeachment
On September 23, I wrote in an op-ed column for the Free Press that I believed President Trump's actions regarding Ukraine, by his own admission, warranted the opening of an impeachment inquiry. I was part of a group of freshman members of Congress, all with backgrounds in military or intelligence, who called on the U.S. House of Representatives to use all available authorities to determine the truth and protect our national security.
I did not make that call lightly. Over the past year, while an increasing number of my colleagues started calling for impeachment and pro-impeachment protesters started rallying at my events, I remained unconvinced. While the President had said and done some seriously troubling things, I ultimately believed that the American people would render a judgment at the ballot box in 2020.
That changed with the events surrounding the President’s actions with Ukraine.
...
Read the whole article to see how she comes to her conclusions, based on evidence shorn of bias.
If the Senate doesn't vote to remove Trump they will be giving Trump and all future presidents
1. the right/license to corrupt elections with foreign interference, and
2. the right/license to ignore any subpoena and to direct anyone in their administration to ignore any subpoena.
Think long and hard on whether you want to live with that.
It is time to put mad hate aside and think of the future of this country.

Re: Trump has been impeached.
Trump has been impeached but I still feel that this is a mistake simply because it will likely embolden the fool to commit even more egregious acts. If, as expected, the Senate does not convict Trump he will see it as proof that he really is above the law.
Indeed. Maybe something that will shock even the puddinghead republicans.
Meanwhile subpoenas are in process through the courts ...

Re: Trump Should Be Very Happy
A Yahoo News/YouGov poll (In new Yahoo News/YouGov poll, most voters agree with Trump’s impeachment) says that 53% of registered votes believe Trump abused the powers of his office, and that 51% believe he obstructed Congress.
48% of Americans support removing Trump from office, compared to 40% who do not.
And of those who disagree with the impeachment/removal process, many support him being voted out in the next election. https://thehill.com/...y-they-wouldnt-vote-for-trump-in-2020

public opinion
... Right now, the Republican image is that they are fully in defense of Trump and willing to whitewash anything and everything Trump does. Let that image stew, and see what happens.
It's going to hinge on public opinion.
There are a couple of things that are up in the air (subpoenas, Rudy's "report etc), Christmas & New Year's holidaze, etc.
Then there will be the Senate Circus, where the republicans will say anything except admit to the evidence.
January should allow time for people to actually start thinking if they want the next president to
  1. use foreign help for elections, and
  2. ignore all subpoenas for all administration people, and
  3. ignore the constitution
Because acquitting him will give the future president/s that license.
Which of course, should be part of campaigning against any republicans that vote to acquit.
Right now the polls are split on impeach/remove (basically 49% to 48%).

Not just Evangelicals ...
quote:
These are the Republicans who are against Trump and for impeachment
President Donald Trump is staring down possible impeachment. Fortunately for him, his base of very conservative Republicans in the Senate likely would save him from being removed from office.
But CNN/SSRS polling in September suggests that Trump should be more worried about a part of the Republican Party that gets less notoriety: the more moderate part. This part of the party won't play a large role in impeachment proceedings, but their feelings toward impeachment and Trump in general could hurt his re-election bid.
The yearning for impeachment and removing Trump from office has risen significantly among moderate and liberal potential Republicans (i.e. Republicans and Republican leaning independents). Nearly a third of moderate/liberal potential Republicans in our latest CNN poll said they wanted Trump impeached and removed last week, while about two-thirds didn't want that. Back in late May, the split was 16% for impeachment and removal and 81% against it. This is statistically significant movement.

Re: Could McConnell's Supreme Court Strategy Come Back to Haunt Him?
All we need to get witnesses is 4 republicans for a simple majority vote to call witnesses.
It would be interesting to hear republican reasons for not calling the already named 4 ...
Senate impeachment trial: Democrats want to subpoena 4 witnesses and approve rules in one motion - Vox
quote:
Those witnesses are acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, Mulvaney’s senior adviser Robert Blair, and Associate Director for National Security at the Office of Management and Budget Michael Duffey. They’re all current or former members of President Donald Trump’s administration who are believed to have direct knowledge of his discussions with Ukraine about political investigations and military aid. All four were called to testify as part of the House inquiry, though they declined to show up.
Add Rudy ...

Midnight in Washington
quote:
It's Midnight In Washington | Crooks and Liars
This ad by Eleven Films is devastating, not because they took Adam Schiff's closing argument and put images with it, but because of their choice of images. Donald Trump with Jeffrey Epstein, his gestures, his childish behavior, his friend Rudy, and more.
https://youtu.be/I5D3iT4BhbQ
On this day when senators will vote to acquit Donald Trump of his high crimes and misdemeanors, effectively making all abuses of power above the law, the truth is a refreshing change.
Shame on every one of them.
Those who vote lot acquit are complicit in his crimes.

Re: No Comment Required
January 15th is also when S. Korea had their first case, and started testing people using the WHO testing protocol. They were soon up to 2,000 tests per day. They now are closing in on no new cases per day, while the US is still increasing cases per day.
Trump rejected the WHO test in favor of a not yet developed US test ... because he doesn't like the WHO and wants to defund them.
This is the toll of delay, denial, disinformation and dumba$$ery.

Billions of dollars worth of food is going to waste as growers and producers from California to Florida are facing a massive surplus of highly perishable items.
The impact could be up to $1.32bn from March to May in farm losses alone, according to a National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition report.
