Re: Explain the observed evidence.
If Dana Nuccitelli can get paid to blog about climate science while being in another branch of science, why can't dan do the same as a mechanical engineer?
He can, of course - but the difference is that if you're seeking to refute a scientific conclusion that is shared by the vast majority of scientists in the field, the bar is set higher than if you're simply reciting the established conclusion.
Dana is riding the coat-tails of the vast majority of scientists in the field - credibility is already established. You need to establish credibility for a minority view.
Unfair maybe, but you know that's how science works - and rightly so.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Worse than we thought
Are you happy for that argument to be applied to biblical prophecies ?

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Worse than we thought
I notice you avoid the question.
But here’s a page of evidence it took me two seconds to find:

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: An Inconvenient Truth
From marc9000:
The U.S. declared war on Japan, not Germany.
From Wikipedia:
On December 11, 1941, the United States Congress declared war upon Germany (Pub.L. 77—331, Sess. 1, ch. 564, 55 Stat. 796), hours after Germany declared war on the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan. The vote was 88—0 in the Senate and 393—0 in the House.
Text of the declaration:
Seventy-Seventh Congress of the United States of America;
At the First Session Begun and held at the City of Washington, on Friday, the third day of January, 1941.
JOINT RESOLUTION Declaring That a State of War Exists Between The Government of Germany and the Government and the People of the United States and Making Provisions To Prosecute The Same
Whereas the Government of Germany has formally declared war against the Government and the people of the United States of America: Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Government of Germany which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Government of Germany; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.
(Signed) Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House of Representatives
(Signed) H. A. Wallace, Vice President of the United States and President of the Senate
Approved December 11, 1941 3:05 PM E.S.T.
(Signed) Franklin D. Roosevelt

Re: An Inconvenient Truth -- still true
I don’t have time to go through a deliberately hyped, scare mongering list of 100 items, so I randomly picked bearing grease and Googled synthetic lubricants. And sure enough, our clever scientists are cracking on with tackling the issue:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/...ses/2019/02/190207123223.htm
I did notice those incredibly essential items, golf balls, were mentioned. I wonder which people consider golf balls to be so important. Oh, that’s right..... silly me.
I imagine the other items will have solutions which clever people are working on - over to other members to chip in - sadly, I have some work to do this weekend

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: An Inconvenient Truth -- still true
In a way, I almost envy the level of comfort that must come from being as stupid as you are. There must be some level of warm feeling that comes from being able to believe every stupid lie and moronic self justification that gets fed to you or invented in that cosy little collection of lonely cells in your skull that passes for a brain.
The scientific solutions to the problems of climate change are being worked on and rolled out. Anyone with the merest hint of an ability to reason will realise that this will take some time to achieve - no one is saying that each and every one of the solutions can be magicked into existence overnight out of thin air. You make Don Quixote look like a genius.
And as for golf, see if you can attribute this quotation correctly:
It may be elitist, and perhaps that's what golf needs. Let golf be elitist. When I say 'aspire,' that's a positive word. Let people work hard and aspire to some day be able to play golf. To afford to play it. They're trying to teach golf to people who will never be able to really play it. They're trying too hard. Because of the expense of playing, and the land needed, golf is never going to be basketball, where all you need is a court.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Species Check Please
"Man has always assumed that he is more intelligent than dolphins because he has achieved so much--the wheel, New York, wars and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But, conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man -- for precisely the same reasons."
How right they are...

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
