You thought "John Carter" was a bomb!
The Trump/Kushner Middle East peace plan plumbs New depths of abject failure.
Joy Reid Exposes The Epic Failure Of Trump's Middle East 'Peace Plan' | Crooks and Liars
quote:
The Palestinians call it an insult and not worth the paper it is written on, Mohyeldin said. They will not even consider it.
Even more important, according to Mohyeldin, is the Arab League’s complete rejection because that nullified Trump administration claims that some Arab countries were on board. Yes, there was some lip service from the Arab League which thanked us for trying and encouraged a return to negotiations, Mohyeldin said, but the unanimous rejection from the foreign leaders means more.
Mohyeldin described the plan as a fundamental misunderstanding of the Palestinian perspective. The U.S. and Israel apparently think what Palestinians want is economic prosperity. But Palestinians repeatedly say they want an end of occupation. They want self-determination and they want freedom. They want the right to live in peace and security.
Yet the plan does not provide for economic prosperity either. Israel will maintain control economically over the Palestinians’ lives, control all of their entry points, control all of their access to the outside world, Mohyeldin noted. So even if there is a future Palestinian state, it would be economically dependent on Israel. He called the plan, Occupation Lite.

Wattlegate!
The Rude Pundit: #Wattlegate: Is the President Digitally Touching Up His Neck? An Investigation
quote:
Look, there are way, way more important things going on. And I don't think anyone is gonna be surprised if he does demand he's [sic] turkey skin be airbrushed out. But the man is incredibly vain, and going at his vanity is one way to screw with his deranged brain as we approach the general election.
And if #Wattlegate gets under his digitally-tightened skin, so much the better.

Burn of the century
Dem Rep Skewers Betsy DeVos: 'Strike This Racist Research'
quote:
REP. CLARK: Do YOU think that the disparity in discipline for pre-schoolers of Color COULD indicate a racial bias?
DEVOS: I suppose it certainly could, and, again, I think the bigger issue here is that we make sure that every opportunity to pursue an education that is going to unlock and unleash their personal and fullest potential.
REP. CLARK: Okay. Isn't it, though, the official policy, now, of the Dept. of Education that the cause of the disparate rates of discipline that we see with students of Color is explained by the fact that these children are just inherently pre-disposed to misbehave and disrupt the classroom more than white children? Isn't that your policy?
DEVOS: No.
REP. CLARK: No, it's not. That is the conclusion of the research you cited in your school safety report of 2019. Congress specifically asked you to strike all references to this report, which, interestingly, appeared in the Journal of Criminal Justice. Your official response within this budget is that you stand by this report and its conclusions. Isn't that right?
DEVOS: Congresswoman, do you have a question about the budget? Because we're here to talk about the budget.
REP. CLARK: Yes. In your FY21 budget, you responded that, quote, the Department of Education stands by this report that says children of Color are just more inherently likely to misbehave, and that explains the disparate rates of discipline.
DEVOS: I don't know where that would have fallen in our budget narrative...
REP. CLARK: We will get you the EXACT SECTION. Because it's right in your budget.
...
REP. CLARK: We certainly would like you to go ahead, undo what you put in your budget, STRIKE this racist research, make sure it's CRYSTAL clear that you do NOT buy into this theory that children of Color are disciplined because of who they are, and that they come to school with disruptive tendencies. THAT is what you put in your report. In your budget you say you stand by it.
Ladies and gentlemen, our Secretary of Education,

Trump first, America second.
He wants us to think he's responsible for the payment. And nothing else.

Of course he did.
Trump Launched a Coronavirus Economic Council Without Telling Members They Were on It
quote:
Trump proudly touted his Great American Economic Revival Industry Groups during a White House press briefing in the Rose Garden on Tuesday night. And yet, many of the listed names and companies did not learn of their new, supposed advisory roles until the president read their names on live TV, or until after the White House published the full list. Others said they hadn’t even committed to working with the Trump administration on this, and only agreed to take a phone call from the White House to see if the effort was worthwhile or just for show.
It turns out it was the latter. Kind of. Less than 24 hours later, it had become clear that industry groups were mainly being used as a sounding board, with some leaders even encouraging the president to not abandon public safety policy for the sake of an economic activity sugar rush. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Trump was abandoning the idea of creating an in-house council of White House aides and advisers, though officials cautioned that such a proposal had never been formally announced.
The chaos had all the hallmarks of a half-baked Trump administration idea: A flashy rollout, with almost no, even rudimentary, pre-planning or execution.

Orange m***n flops again! Film at 11!
Trump’s effort to enlist private companies to reopen economy derided as an utter failure
quote:
An attempt by President Donald Trump to enlist the assistance of private business leaders in his efforts to reopen the U.S. economy by early May was panned as a failure by participants and observers alike as the White House response to the coronavirus pandemic appears set to make an economic crash worse.
He’s got to stop talking about turning the economy back on and start talking about making people feel safe, things that are happening around testing, and the health care system, one CEO who commented anonymously for fear of White House reprisals told Politico. That’s the only way you will really get the economy reopened over a period of time.
The meetings and rollout of the president’s Opening Our Country Council were reportedly beset by confusion and chaos as the White House announced a series of calls with executives on Tuesday night without consulting participants, many of whom had preexisting commitments on quarterly earnings they could not reschedule.

Fading from the stage
US stays away as world leaders agree action on Covid-19 vaccine
quote:
Global leaders have pledged to accelerate cooperation on a coronavirus vaccine and to share research, treatment and medicines across the globe. But the United States did not take part in the World Health Organization initiative, in a sign of Donald Trump’s increasing isolation on the global stage.
The cooperation pledge, made at a virtual meeting, was designed to show that wealthy countries will not keep the results of research from developing countries.[...]
Instead an ad hoc grouping of 20 world leaders and global health figures were on the call, including the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the American philanthropist Bill Gates. Britain will co-chair a joint coronavirus global response summit on 4 May aimed at raising funds for vaccine research, treatments and tests.
Once the US was a world leader. Now we're not even a world participant.
