Re: Chicken Little and PT Barnum
Of course I believe there will be global catastrophes in the near future, one playing out right now. But I also understand that those who have prepared will get by.
The way I see it, if me and my people suffer, we will make sure everyone feels the pain. Is that a bad attitude?
It's not just bad, it's a stupid idea.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: Twenty years after the Aberration Period
The second largest economy in the world is the European Union.
The third largest economy in the world is China.
The fourth largest economy in the world is Japan.
The US major trading partners are Mexico, Canada and China.
The TransPacific Trading Group may equal the size of the US Economy in just a few years.
The largest democracy in the world is India.
The fastest growing economies are in the Pacific and Asian area.
Over 6 million US workers work for foreign owned companies in the US.
What do you think the future entails.

Also worth bearing in mind when jar talks about the size of the European economy is that a lot of the biggest players in that economy are US companies.
And lots of former US companies are moving towards becoming non-US based companies. Burger King is a great example being bought by Tim Hortons.

Re: The American Mindset
Remember Trump has never declared personal bankruptcy. It seems he can live very well with other folk becoming bankrupt.

Is that what he said he would do?
Does he have enough money and contacts outside the US to simply leave?

I'm not sure what Trump has done except lower tax rates on the wealthy and increase global warming through domestic fossil fuel production.
Me! Me! I know!
Trump has removed the prohibitions on dumping pollutants into our streams and marshes, removed the ability of States to mandate higher fuel economy, removed access to health care for many of our poor, removed air quality standards, removed the emphasis on moving to more energy efficient lighting and is trying to remove the requirement for toilets to waste less water.

Solutions
We can raise taxes and cut stupid spending to lower the debt.
We can try to at least ameliorate the effects of climate change since we were too stupid to avoid it.
We can reduce population growth either through education, disease, war or famine. The first is difficult and takes time, the latter are easy and proven effective.

Re: Solutions
It seems much of the rest of the world has found a consensus; it is only the really ugly Americans who are so deplorably handicapped.

And all of this doesn't even account for the belief of the Biblical Christians and the possibility that they will add to mass hysteria by thinking that the world is in fact ending. Perhaps the global Christian community will be wiser than the hypersensitive.
There is no evidence that any theocratic movement has ever been a solution other than through total domination and oppression of "them".

the relevance of Christianity
Phat writes:
But is what you're saying that Paul himself began this trend or was it later once Christianity became politically approved?
Christianity was totally irrelevant until Constantine.

I argue that the only reason the religion is even relevant today is due more to the power through Jesus than to the nationalism that pushes it.
No, you simply assert that over and over again yet offer absolutely no evidence to support that position. Religions as State Religions though have a long and detailed evidential trail showing their relevancy and effects.

Re: the relevance of Christianity
Phat writes:
Have you personally felt anything from your religious times of individual or corporate prayer?
Sure but that is not any evidence of anything beyond the fact I felt something. It is NOT evidence of anything external to me.
Phat writes:
Do you believe that Jesus is with us today?
Yup, you are correct. What does that even mean?
Phat writes:
What does the term believer (and belief) mean to you?
A believer is one who holds a belief and a belief is something someone holds that is NOT supported by any evidence.
Yet None of those things have anything to do with the topic or the relevance or irrelevance of Christianity.
Can you see a pattern in your posts Phat? Is there more than just seeking confirmation of what you want to be true?
