I wonder how many clerics (and their parishioners) notice the irony when they close their churches or cancel services because of the coronavirus. Apparently they are convinced that their all-powerful god is powerless against complex molecules.

Can you broaden your question? Your line of reasoning smacks a bit of a budding conspiracy theory, many of which I have already seen regarding this viral outbreak.
I would be interested in a Corvid-19 thread something along the lines of
Sociological Reactions To Corvid-19. Are you game, AiG?

The Sociological Implications Of Corvid-19
So I moved it here anyway. We need a Corvid-19 Topic.
AiG writes:

Only an idiot would assume that God automatically cures us of every sickness and disease which comes our way. This has been proven time and time again with everything contagious--which the evidence shows does not discriminate between believers and non-believers.
Some conspiracies which I have heard allude to the idea that these types of events are planned. There is so far no evidence to assume that to be the case, although selling off one's stocks and rebuying later after a natural correction has taken place seems pretty standard fare for those in the loop.
The only thing that concerns me about Corvid-19 thus far is the fact that it mainly targets people my age. As has been pointed out, so does Influenza and at far greater numbers of deaths...and that even with a vaccine!
And of course, some will attempt to link this virus with End Times judgment, though I wouldnt go that far. It is what it is.

COVID-19 and Religion?
First, wash your goddamn hands ... often.
Second, for heaven sake keep your friggin fingers out of your friggin nose.
Third, if you're sick (COVID or not) stay the hell home and don't sneeze on anything!

Best way to fight a pandemic is to put an anti-vax religious nutjob in charge.
The best way to assure the US is not threatened by any pandemics is to put someone in charge that is a religious nutjob anti-evidence, anti-science, anti-vaxer in charge of our defense and make the first order of business to control the flow of information.
Should work well.

Keep hand sanitizer all over your living space for cleaning hands when not near a sink..
Have moistened antiseptic tissues like Clorox handy and wipe everything obsessively from countertops to door handles and especially anything you happen to sneeze on.
If stick friggin finger into friggin nose, follow with an alcohol swab and hand washing or sanitizing. -- in fact do that BEFORE sticking friggin finger ..

"Takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
the New Arab site reports
Pilgrims to religious shrines in Iran have reportedly attempted to defy fears about the novel coronavirus by licking religious shrines to prove that they will not get sick.
A video posted to twitter shows three people, including one who appears to be a child, licking the glass coverings and metal grilles at religious shrines in Qom and Mashhad.
Qom, which is a prominent centre of religious pilgrimage for Shia Muslims, is also the epicentre of the virus in Iran.
"Stop playing with people’s beliefs, coronavirus is nothing in the Shia shrines, one man is recorded saying at the Fatima Masumeh shrine in Qom, in response to calls for authorities to close pilgrimage sites amid the outbreak.
"Im licking this and I don't care what happens," another man is shown saying, before licking a metal grille housing a prominent grave site.
What did Phat say about idiots in post#4?

Re: The Sociological Implications Of Corvid-19
A health professional (an EMT, as I seem to recall) called in with advice.
She advised that for cleaning surfaces, a bleach solution works best. Of course, bleach would not be a good option for sanitizing skin.
She advised against over-using alcohol-based sanitizers. Alcohol will dry out and crack the skin, making it more porous, especially when over-used. Hospitals have sanitizer dispensers by every door and, as I recall, it didn't seem to be alcohol-based (a friend was hospitalized this past year). I just sent a Facebook message to my daughter-in-law, a physician's assistant, asking her what they're using. Those with contacts in the medical profession (except for faith healers) should also inquire.
Similarly, alcohol consumption should be reduced, since it has a similar drying and cracking effect on those linings. Plus it reduces the body's general health and resistance.
For cleaning hands, she recommended foam which you can prepare yourself, though I don't know from what.
Also, take time washing your hands. At least 20 seconds. Sing (silently, please) "Happy Birthday" to yourself two or three times. Make a habit of it. If you choose the "Alphabet Song" instead, be sure to say each and every letter separately and distinctly.
When you have to sneeze or cough (eg, it suddenly comes upon you), don't do it into your elbow. Instead, bring your clothing's neckline up over your mouth and nose to catch it. Myself as a member of the dance community, I always use my handkerchief or, if I'm eating, a paper napkin (which I promptly crumple up and dispose of).
And, of course, stop touching your face. That's a habit and she had advice about habits, in particular how long it takes to break a habit. Again from the dance community, I've learned to avoid touching my mouth, nose, or eyes with my hands.
There's a standard joke that when we go to use the convenience* (AKA rest room, john, jane) we should be washing our hands before rather than after, since we know where it's been but not where our hands have been. Practically speaking, washing hands both before and after would be a good idea.
Individually, we should seek advice from medical professionals, not from politicians.

FOOTNOTE *
The British tend to call public toilets the "convenience". That was the basis of a one-line joke in the 1967 British WWII comedy/farce, "How I Won the War", with Michael Crawford (yes, the Phantom of the Opera star, though when he was still doing more comedy) and Beatle John Lennon. Crawford plays an inept lieutenant (of many other inept officers -- I'll spare you of the details).
Crawford is waiting to see the general or colonel who is on the can -- literally a 5-gallon can with a toilet seat atop it and surrounded by partitions for privacy even though the entire affair is outdoors in the open (this was set in North Africa and that was exactly what the accommodations were like, though without the partitions). When the senior officer exits, Crawford reports smartly: "Leftenant Goodbody at your convenience, Sir!"

The British tend to call public toilets the "convenience".
Born and raised in Britain, spent the first 21 years of my life there. I have never once heard someone refer to toilets as 'the convenience'. Maybe it's an old fashioned thing, but I haven't heard old people say it either.
On a wholly separate topic, can an admin please fix the typo in the thread title? I keep thinking it's got something to do with crows.

The drying effect of alcohol is a problem but coconut oil helps alleviate that and it's said to have antibacterial and antiviral properties too. Aloe vera is also said to be antiviral as well as antibacterial. You can find hand sanitizers that contain aloe vera.

Re: The Sociological Implications Of Corvid-19
I had to look it up: the virus name doesn't have an r in it.
It's COVID-19.
If you put an r in it you havea a word that refers to a bird group that includes crows.
So just remove the R.
