I may have to disabuse you of the idea that I have any sense at all, by pointing out that the donor's orientation concerns the possibility of getting HIV or AIDS in a blood transfusion. Since I assume they screen the blood for that (I hope) then orientation is meaningless.
They do. They also screen for blood born diseases. For instance I can no longer give blood because my lymphoma could be transmitted to a recipient, and that is not something I would wish on anyone. I can give platelets, but I am low on those due to medications I am taking to keep the lymphoma in check.
... when the epidemic and its causes had become known the gay community got smart and gave up their promiscuous habits.
It's also when gay marriage became a legal thing, and people in loving monogamous relationships aren't as promiscuous.
