For starters, they have to be more than simply a character in a book. You could convince us that you believed in Long John Silver but at best you would be believing in the storytelling skills of the author. If I lived in Saskatchewan, you likely would be uninspired to believe in me unless we interacted in meaningful ways. Perhaps you needed a ride somewhere and I showed up time and time again (and on time!
) or perhaps you needed spare change occasionally. Or perhaps I did and you came through. Belief would be proven through actions. This does bring up a good question in my mind. It's one thing for me to believe in God. Its another for Him to believe in me. I'll have to think about this further...
